Palworld: Fishing Guide (How to Fish, Rods, Baits, Ponds, Pals Obtained & Rewards)

A feature that has been long-awaited since the previous updates has finally arrived, and with the release of Palworld’s Tides of Terraria update, you can now do this activity.

Fishing in Palworld is quite similar to other games, which include the need for a fishing rod, bait, and a minigame that you need to complete.

Through fishing, you can catch certain Pals, and another rewarding part of this activity is that you can also get useful items when you are successful.

How To Unlock Fishing?

You can unlock fishing once you have reached Level 15, which will allow you to unlock the Beginner Fishing Set.

This includes the Beginner Fishing Rod that is used to fish and Simple Bait, which is cheap to craft and required to get Pals to bite.

The Beginner Fishing Rod can be crafted at a High Quality Workbench or better crafting stations, while Simple Bait can be produced from a Primitive Workbench and other similar structures.

How To Fish in Palworld?

To begin fishing, make sure that you equip a Fishing Rod and have any type of bait in your inventory, as these are needed to catch Pals.

You will need to look for a fishing spot since casting your line in the water where no Fish Shadows appear will result in nothing.

Once you cast your line, wait for one of the Pals to take a bite, and after an alert, pull the lure to begin the fishing minigame.

The game is simple, and all you need to do is align the bar by tapping or holding the attack button so that it stays where the fish icon is.

A progress meter will be displayed, and this will increase as the bar is aligned or it will decrease if the fish is not within its range.

Should the progress meter go down completely, the Pal will be lost, but if successful, you will automatically capture the Pal and obtain materials.

How To Find Fishing Spots?

Fishing Spots can be found by exploring the water, and most of the time, you will find them as you fly or swim around the many islands on the map.

Sometimes there will be Fish Shadows in a location, and at other times they won’t be there, which makes it necessary to explore.

Depending on where you are fishing, the Pals that can be caught are sometimes different, as it seems these are tied to the various regions.

Fishing Ponds

Fishing Ponds provide you with a way to catch Pals via fishing, but without having to do the hard work yourself, and instead, a Pal does this for you.

Building a Fish Pond or Large Fish Pond will allow you to select what Fish Shadows will be present for your Pals to catch, which determines the Pals that will be caught.

This will require that you use bait when selecting which Fish Shadows will be present, and afterward, your Pals will do the rest. (Requires Handiwork)

Pals Obtained From Fishing

Depending on the region you are fishing in, there will be certain Pals that you can catch, and these include the following:

The following is a list of Fish Shadows that can be caught from Fishing Ponds or Large Fishing Ponds at your base, where they have been built.

Fishing Rewards

When it comes to fishing, doing this manually will allow you to obtain rewards that the Pal you caught regularly drops, and the addition of Coralum Ore.

Fishing via the Fishing Pond or Large Fishing Pond will provide you with various items that come from certain drop tables based on their locations.

Collecting Salvage

If you have started to explore the water in search of Fishing Spots, you may have noticed the floating salvage that appears almost anywhere.

Interacting with these requires that you have a Fishing Rod, a Powerful Fishing Magnet, and be riding a Water Pal.

You will need to complete a minigame where you need to time the dial correctly as it rotates and passes a highlighted area, which will provide you with loot when you are successful.

Useful Pals For Fishing

The following are the Pals that were added in the Tides of Terraria update that are useful or provide bonuses when it comes to fishing, thanks to their Partner Skills.

Jellroy (Jellroy Drop)

Boosts the drops that you obtain from fishing for Salvage, allowing you to get more items or ones that are rarer. (Needs to be in team)

Jelliette (Jelliette Drop)

Considered an essential Pal to have with you while fishing, as it increases the amount of items obtained as rewards from fishing. (Needs to be in team)

Gloopie (Sticky Princess)

Gloopie causes the capture gauge to decrease more slowly, which can be useful if you tend to miss the fish icon with the bar during the minigame. (Needs to be summoned)

Ghangler/Ghangler Ignis (Master Night Angler/Flame Lantern)

These Pals reduce the amount of time it takes for Pals to take a bite off of your bait, allowing you to quickly lure them in for catching. (Needs to be summoned)

Whalaska/Whalaska Ignis

Causes the capture gauge to start higher when fishing and also increases the speed at which it fills up during the minigame. (Needs to be summoned)

Verdict

Fishing is a great way to get some of the new Pals that were added in the Tides of Terraria update and to get additional materials.

Coralum Ore is a vital material that can be obtained through different fishing activities, which include fishing in the open water or from fishing ponds, as well as salvage.

Upgrading to better rods and fishing bait will make catching Pals through fishing much easier, especially when you have Pals that affect the activity.
