The Tides of Terraria update introduced some of the most fierce-looking creatures, but Polapup is not one of them, and as a matter of fact, it looks like a polar puppy. (Hence the name)
This adorable Ice and Water Pal may not seem like a terrifying enemy to face, but it sure has its uses and is too cute to pass up an opportunity to capture one.
Found mostly around the Frozen Coral Hill by fishing, Polapup is often an easy catch and a fun Pal to have around, but this doesn’t mean that it cannot do its share of damage in battle.
Polapup Location Map
Polapup is one of the Pals that you will need to get by fishing for them, and there are multiple spots around the Frozen Coral Hill (Feybreak Island) where you can find it.
Once you find a Fishing Spot around the Frozen Coral Hill, cast your line, and there will be a good chance that Polapup will take a bite.
Other locations where Polapup may appear when fishing include the following:
- The Land of Absolute Zero
- Isle of the Glacial Core
Polapup is also one of the Pals that you can capture using a Fishing Pond. (Medium Fish Shadow)
Polapup Uses
Polapup can be useful for both traveling and keeping it at a base to work on certain structures, thanks to its work skills. (Watering and Cooling)
When traveling with Polapup, you can ride it to quickly travel across snow, and when it comes to moving down slopes, you can use this Pal to quickly slide down them. (This is fun!)
As for its usage in battle, Polapup can learn powerful Active Skills when it reaches higher levels, and the potential it has to freeze enemies can be quite useful combined with its Water attacks.

Rider of the Snowy Mountain
You can ride Polapup once you have unlocked and crafted its saddle, which allows you to quickly travel over snow since it has a speed boost when on this type of terrain.
Additionally, you can utilize Polapup’s ability called “Rider of the Snowy Mountain” to slide, which will give you a significant movement speed boost when sliding down slopes.
Riding Polapup requires that you have the Polapup Saddle. (Unlock at Level 34)
Work Suitability
Polapup can be useful at a base when you need a Pal that can provide Watering or Cooling, as it can be assigned to either of the tasks, or it will work on what is available.

Verdict
Polapup may not be the toughest Pal out there, but it does become stronger eventually as it gains levels, and this allows it to unlock new Active Skills.
When traveling in cold places where there is snow and ice, using Polapup to get around can sometimes be a good way to save time since it travels fast on snow and can slide downhill.
Polapup has a high level in Cooling, making it one of the better replacements for other Pals when you need a Cooler or Refrigerator to be handled.
