Coralum Ore is a type of material that was added when the Tides of Terraria update was released, which serves as an endgame ore that needs to be processed for crafting advanced equipment.
While you won’t be able to get your hands on a lot of these during the earlier stages of the game, they become more abundant once you have progressed.
Those who have just hit Level 60 and above will often take a peek at what this material is used for, which is mostly the newer items added in the update.
A rare ore formed over countless years in the deep sea.
How To Get Coralum Ore?
1) Fishing
One of the earliest and easiest ways to get your hands on Coralum Ore is by fishing, and there will always be a chance for you to get this material when you catch a Pal.
This can happen even if Coralum Ore is not in their drop table, and instead, it is considered a reward for completing the fishing minigame.
Having a Jelliette in your Party will increase the amount of items you can get, and this will increase the amount of Coralum Ore that drops, especially if you catch Whalaska or Whalaska Ignis.
Breeding Jelliete and condensing them later will improve their Partner Skill, allowing you to obtain more loot as its rank increases.
2) Salvage Spots
If you have been crossing over the sea around the islands, you may have noticed the salvage floating on top of the water.
These can be interacted with, provided that you have a Powerful Fishing Magnet and a Fishing Rod while you are mounted on top of a Water Pal.
Interacting with the Salvage will begin a mini game where you have to time the rotating dial as it enters the highlighted area on a circle, providing you with loot often includes Coralum Ore.
You can obtain more items from Salvage if you have a Jellroy in your team, even if it is not your active Pal, as its Partner Skill will take effect when other Pals are active.
The amount of Coralum Ore that you get can further be increased if the Jellroy on your team has been condensed, making this a good investment if you have a lot of these Pals or have bred them.
3) Fishing Pond Rewards
When your Pals fish at a Fishing Pond or Large Fishing Pond, you will be able to collect both Pals and items that have been obtained.
Amongst the items that you may get from these structures, there will be a good chance for you to obtain Coralum Ore, and the amount varies.
Sometimes you can get a small amount, while sometimes you can get even more, and this also depends on the Fish Shadow size that you choose, while also having a random drop amount.
4) Butchering Whalaska & Whalaska Ignis
Whalaska and Whalaska Ignis are known to have Coralum Ore amongst the items that they drop when defeated or when captured.
You can butcher these Pals with a Meat Cleaver or send them through a Pal Disassembly Conveyor to obtain the materials that they drop, but this eliminates them in the process.
If you plan on doing this, mass breeding these Pals can give you a good supply of them for butchering to get a lot of Coralum Ore.
Pals That Drop Coralum Ore
The following Pals that were added in the Tides of Terraria update are guaranteed to drop Coralum Ore when captured or defeated. (Including being butchered)
- Whalaska
- Whalaska Ignis
Coralum Ore Uses
Coralum Ore is the main material required for you to make Coralum Ingot, which are needed to make most of the new and advanced items added in the Tides of Terraria update.
Along with Coralum Ore, you will need Ore and Coal to create Coralum Ingots, and this can only be done at a Gigantic Forge.
How To Start Farming Coralum Ore?
If you just hit 61 and require Coralum Ore to start making ingots to craft the items from the Tides of Terraria update, you will want to start with Fishing and Salvaging.
Fishing is a good way to get your hands on Whalaska and Whalaska Ignis that you can use to mass breed and later butcher, or you can resort to Salvage.
By exploring the water on a fast Water Pal with Powerful Fishing Magnets and a Fishing Rod, you will be all set to start collecting Coralum Ore from Salvage Spots.
Eventually, Salvage becomes a much faster way for you to get Coralum Ore, but mass breeding Whalaska and Whalaska Ignis is a good backup.
Verdict
Coralum Ore does not become usable until you have reached Level 61, but you can still get your hands on it as you progress to higher levels.
Saving Coralum Ore for later can be a big help when you begin to unlock the more advanced items in your Technology Menu, starting from Level 61, going up.
Having more than one source of Coralum Ore can be useful for having a steady supply, especially if you need it to craft ammo for the energy-based weapons.
