Fighting & Killing Captain Traunt

B3CTT-3

Captain Traunt has attacks similar to other heavies but they vary in some ways while he also maintains as a very tanky boss which will require you to score critical hits if you don’t want to waste time and ammunition.

He uses both incendiary and cryo attacks which appears to be the combination of the other heavies that would use one of those elemental damage types.

B3CTT-4

It is a good idea to keep your distance from Captain Traunt unless you can sustain a large amount of damage.

Taking cover in certain areas will help but it would be wise to look out for his attacks that can cause areas to be affected by incendiary or cryo effects.

Weak Spots

B3CTT-5

Just like other heavy enemies, Captain Traunt will have a circular object on his back behind his head which appears to power his suit.

Shooting this will deal critical damage to him and can cause him to stagger for a bit which can help cancel his attacks and give you the opportunity to land more hits.

Notable Attacks

Traveling Cryo/Incendiary Ball

B3CTT-6

Captain Traunt can fire a ball that is either incendiary or cryo type of element which will travel around the area and hit you if you take cover up the area that can be reached by the stairs.

B3CTT-7

This will go in a rotation and can hit you unexpectedly so be sure to look out and get out of the way if he has fired on.

B3CTT-8

Standing at the side or on the ledge can keep you out of range from the projectile and even save your life when fighting Captain Traunt.

Elemental Bomb

B3CTT-9

Every once in a while, Captain Traunt may lob a bomb at you which can be either of his elemental damage types where the incendiary can cause the ground to deal damage over time or the cryo to slow you.

B3CTT-10

This attack can be avoided by moving out of the way as well as not standing in the area of effect or jumping at the exact time he is about to throw it so that it goes past under you.

Moving backwards or out of the way will make this attack miss most of the time, preventing you from taking unnecessary damage.

Floating Bombs

B3CTT-11

Captain Traunt can raise his bombs which he can use or force to explode, damaging you if you get too close to him which can be destroyed by shooting at them.

Ice Wall

B3CTT-12

An ice wall may be created by Captain Traunt which blocks damage as well as you from moving forward, forcing you to go around it or to attempt to destroy it.

B3CTT-13

If you are behind the ice wall, Captain Traunt can blow up the wall and send forward as projectile.

Burst Fire Attack

B3CTT-14

When nearby, Captain Traunt may attempt to hit you with a burst fire of multiple projectiles fired from his weapon which can cause a lot of damage when you don’t move out of the way.

Notable Drops

B3CTT-15

Captain Traunt is known to drop uncommon items with a good chance for rare items aside from the cash and Eridian that the bosses drop.

B3CTT-16

It has been reported that Captain Traunt is also known to have a better chance to drop the Speedloadn’ Hellwalker legendary shotgun which is known to be similar to a shotgun from the Doom series.

Tips

B3CTT-17

  • Avoid staying to close to Captain Traunt as his attack can reach you much faster than if you were distanced from him which will give you time to evade.
  • Try to get as many shots as you can so that you can stagger him to prevent him from attacking you with most of his attacks.
  • Save the troops that spawn around him for when you get downed and keep a weapon with good accuracy just incase you need to kill them from afar.
