Taking damage from enemies can sometimes take a chunk out of your health but characters who can Fortify themselves can reduce the amount of damage taken.
Barbarians are well known for being durable fighters and with the Aspect of Tempering Blows, they can Fortify themselves faster.
Aspect of Tempering Blows allows a Barbarian to gain Fortify when they have swapped their weapons for a certain number of times.
Aspect of Tempering Blows Effects (Fortify Aspect)
Barbarians have skills that will use the best weapon available based on what is required and what will be more efficient.
Since this causes the Barbarian to swap weapons from time to time, the Aspect of Tempering Blows kicks in after a certain number of swaps.
Once the number of swaps required is met, the Barbarian will gain an amount of Fortify and this can happen often during a fight.

You can get the Aspect of Tempering Blows by completing the Defiled Catacomb Dungeon, which can be found in the Desolate Highlands to the east of Nevesk. (Fractured Peaks)
How To Get Aspect of Tempering Blows? (Defiled Catacombs Walkthrough)
1) Slay all enemies in Dead Harkening
Once you enter the Defiled Catacombs, you will begin in the Dead Harkening, which is where several monsters will be scattered that need to be killed.
2) Travel to the Spiral Crypts
After you have cleared out all the enemies, a door at the very end of the area will be unsealed, which will allow you to travel to the Spiral Crypts.
3) Destroy the Skeletal Constructs
Upon reaching the Spiral Crypts, you will need to look for all 4 Skeletal Constructs and destroy them while fighting off the other monsters.
As you attack the Skeletal Constructs, monsters will appear, and this later includes an elite enemy for each of them.
4) Slay the Gate Keeper and collect the Catacomb Key
Once all the Skeletal Constructs have been destroyed, you may continue by searching for the Gate Keeper and slaying it.
5) Use the Catacomb Key to open the Catacomb Door
After the Gate Keeper has been slain, you will need to take the Catacomb Key that it drops and use it to open the Catacomb Door that leads to the Lair of the Defiler.
6) Defeat the Broodguard
Upon entering the Lair of the Defiler, you will encounter the Broodguard, who you will now need to defeat to get your rewards.
Verdict
Once a character becomes Fortified, their chances of survival increase, and this is great for fighting stronger enemies.
There are several Barbarian Builds such as the Whirlwind build that utilize this Aspect when fighting multiple enemies.
One of the best Aspects to have alongside the Aspect of Tempering Blows is the Aspect of Numbing Wrath as these two can quickly make you Fortified.
