Baldur’s Gate 3 allows you to customize your character to an extreme extent and some players are wondering how the character’s gender can be changed.
You can choose your race, body size, complexion, gender, some more private stuff, and more depending on how you want your character to be.
When you start a new game, there is a choice between gender but in the game, things are a little different if you want to change this.
Choosing Your Gender in Character Creation
At the start of character creation, you will be looking at the Origin Custom options and a custom character will be in the making.
To change your gender, select one of the four body types on the bottom right to distinguish your character’s initial gender.
Once you have chosen a body type, you can select Edit Appearance at the bottom of the middle of your screen to further customize your character.

- Female (Regular)
- Male (Regular)
- Female (Large)
- Male (Large)
Can You Change Your Gender During the Game?
Sadly, players cannot change their gender mid-game as this may affect certain reactions in the game or is simply just the way the developers made it to be.
This makes it important to take some time to customize your character since you won’t be able to alter much when the story has begun.
There is however a way to temporarily modify your character, which is with the use of the Mask of the Shapeshifter.
How To Use the Mask of The Shapeshifter?
The Mask of the Shapeshifter is a reward for players who have purchased the Digital Deluxe Edition, which will provide you with the mask in the Traveler’s Stash.
You can claim this at any time when you head to camp and will need to wear it to be able to use the Shapeshift spell.
This will transform your appearance in a way (there are multiple options) but this can be dispelled later in combat or with other circumstances, making it only a temporary change.

Baldur’s Gate 3 implements the character creation feature strongly and this has given players a real feel to the role-playing game feeling.
It’s best to take your time when you are creating your character as this will be your main one for the rest of the game or until a new feature is added.
Since there is no other way to change your gender in the game, you will either have to start a new game with a new character or wait to see if the developers will add such a feature.
