BG3: How To Get Rid of Noxious Flames

Noxious Fumes can be one of the most annoying environmental sources of damage that you can encounter in different locations.

This type of trap is known to be found in areas such as the Underdark, the Overgrown Tunnel, and more, which can cause your characters to take damage.

What’s worse is that these can be ignited by other traps, causing an explosion in the area where the gas has spread but all this can be avoided if you are careful.

What Are Noxious Fumes?

Noxious Fumes occupy a certain amount of space on the map which originates from their trap, which is often a Vent.

Whenever characters step into the Noxious Fumes, there will be a roll to determine whether they will be affected by the fumes.

Characters affected by the fumes will take a bit of damage periodically until the effect wears off, with each instance of damage having a roll.

How To Stop Noxious Fumes?blocking the vent

Putting a stop to the spread of Noxious Fumes is easier than one may think but there is a catch to doing this, the trap must be detected.

This will happen when a character passes a perception check when going near the location of the vent and if successful, the vent will be discovered.

Once the vent has been revealed, all you need to do is block the vent, which can be done by tossing an item at it and waiting for a few seconds.

This can be done by selecting an item and choosing to throw or you can click and drag the item to where you want to throw it.

While targeting where to throw the object (this can be any object), you will notice that the item will snap to the vent, which means it will block the Noxious Fumes.

Peculiar Flower and Other Traps

Sometimes there will be other traps along with the vents that will ignite the Noxious Fumes, and these can sometimes trigger an explosion.

You can destroy these by targeting them, which requires that you have also detected the traps with a check, or else they can’t be hit.

Keep in mind that even if you have blocked a vent and have gotten rid of the Noxious Fumes, other traps may still trigger but may not be as dangerous.

Verdict

There are many traps in the game that can be disarmed but most of them need disarming kits and using them up close to a vent is not advisable unless you can bear the damage.

If ever you run into areas with Noxious Fumes, you can always double back to grab items to toss at the vents later to continue without problems.

Sometimes even the smallest item will work if it snaps to the vent but keep in mind, being able to detect the traps is important. (Perception)
