How To Open Rusted Iron Gate: BG3

In your search for a mysterious book that a necromancer had previously been obsessed with, you may stumble upon a Rusted Iron Gate.

Beyond the Rusted Iron Gate, you see the book but also notice some traps nearby and it is obvious that this gate has been locked.

While you could pick the lock, there is a much easier way to open it that will be convenient if you do not have the means to open it with tools.

Where is The Rusted Iron Gate?Rusted Iron Gate location

The Rusted Iron Gate is just beyond the Ornate Mirror, which leads into the laboratory of a necromancer who reluctantly is not around to cause you trouble.

Just as you enter the laboratory, you will find the Rusted Iron Gate to the left of the stairs, but its key can be found elsewhere.

Luckily it is not too far and once you get your hands on the key; you can open the gate to grab the Necromancy of Thay book. (Part of the Search the Cellar Quest)

Once you get into the laboratory, head to the room to the very right and you will be able to find a Rusted Key on one of the shelves.

There is also a lever nearby just in case you want to get out of the laboratory quickly, instead of going all the way around again.

Opening the Necromancy of Thay spellbook

After taking the Rusted Key, make your way back to the Rusted Iron Gate and interact with it to open it up and you will be able to get the Necromancy of Thay book.

Be careful though, the book is on a pressure plate, and taking it will cause the gargoyle traps to shoot fire bolts across the cell. (Leave as soon as you get the book)

Verdict

Getting to the laboratory is usually the tricky part as there are a few twists and turns that you need to get by before finding it.

Once you find the key and the gate, it’s best to have only one character go inside so that you can easily bring them out. (activating turn-based mode is advised)

Once you have grabbed the Necromancy of Thay, all you need is the Dark Amethyst and you can open up the book to discover what knowledge it hides.
