Defiled Temple Puzzle Solution BG3: (Baldur’s Gate 3)

There are multiple reasons for you ending up in the Defiled Temple but most of the time this will be either if you were captured by Priestess Gut or are trying to find the Underdark.

If you have made your way further into the Defiled Temple, which can be found in the Shattered Sanctum within the Goblin Camp, you will find the Moon Puzzle.

This shows different circles that each have an empty filled slot, which can be moved around by interacting with each circle, and those who figure this out unlock a new path.

What is the Defiled Temple Puzzle?

The Defiled Temple Puzzle, which some may refer to as the Priestess Gut Puzzle or simply the Moon Puzzle is a small puzzle found in the room at the end of the Defiled Temple.

This can later be solved by opening one of the ways that allows you and your party to head into the Underdark to continue the story or explore.

You may solve this on your own by trying to shift the circles to get everything in a different position, which is pretty much hinted at by the lack of empty sockets.

If you have gone through the Defiled Temple and have looted Priestess Gut’s room, you will have obtained a Selunite Journal that speaks of the puzzle.

It reads as the following:

“Thus the interlocking circles will bring the full moons to match the stars while casting darkness where it belongs at the bottom. That chasm to the Underdark will stay sealed.”

This one was easy since you will notice that the light shines on only one of the circles and each of the circles has only one thing in common. (Filled and empty slots)

What you need to do is rotate the circles so that the empty slots will end up on the circle that is being shined on by a light or what others refer to as the moon.

Once you have moved all the empty slots onto the lit circle, the path to the Underdark will now be open for you and your party to travel to.

Verdict

Baldur’s Gate 3 has a way of telling its players that there is more to a puzzle than meets the eye and this is certainly one of them.

While this one may be a bit easy to guess due to the shapes and hints from the light, some still have difficulty with it now and then.

After you have gotten through with this puzzle, you may use the Defiled Temple as one of your ways to proceed with the main story.
