ARK: How to Get Chitin

ARK Chitin

Chitin is one of the more common resources that are quite easy to obtain in Ark, but later on, you may want to find ways to get a large amount for crafting several items.

With chitin, you will be able to create not only certain items but also other resources that are vital for, later on, especially Cementing Paste.

This resource appears to be the exoskeleton or shells of certain creatures in Ark, notably obtainable by killing and harvesting insect creatures.

How to Farm Chitin?

Chitin is usually obtained when you kill and harvest the corpse of insect-like or underwater shelled creatures.

Depending on what kind of creature you harvest the body of, the amount of Chitin may vary, larger creatures providing more than the smaller ones.

You may also find Chitin when accessing the inventory of Loot Beacons which can be found all over some of the maps.

Best Way to Farm Chitin

A Megatherium may take a bit of a longer process to tame but they can harvest a good deal of Chitin from corpses.

Sabertooth is also good for harvesting Chitin but a Therizinosaurus with a higher amount of harvest levels, allowing it to farm an extra amount of resources.

Using a Chainsaw has proven to be one of the best methods when it comes to harvesting Chitin, as long as you have the materials to craft, repair, and fuel it.

Chitin Uses

Chitin is used for crafting different items in the game, notably the Chitin Set, some saddles, and Cementing Paste.

Cementing Paste is a much-demanded resource and to craft a lot of it, you will need a bunch of Chitin and Stone.

The Chitin Set is one of the earlier sets that offer players good protection when they have not yet advanced to metal items.

Chitin is also a resource that can substitute Keratin, filling in for any missing amounts when crafting.

Verdict

Chitin is not that hard of a resource to find, but it does take some time and effort to get a good amount, similar to Keratin.

Depending on where your base is and what map you are on, you may decide to find a good spot that has nearby sources of Chitin.

When you are low on Chitin, some items can still be crafted using Keratin as a replacement, but this isn’t possible with the Chitin Set.
