After recently escorting the scholars and taking care of a certain Barroth problem in The Best Kind Of Quest, you need to search for a scholar that was separated from an escort.
It is important that the scholar is found as the research that they are capable of providing will be vital later on.
You will need to follow the tracks laid out and find any signs leading to the rescue of the missing scholar as soon as possible.
Objectives
You are tasked with finding the missing scholar that has gone missing and will need to investigate the area around for clues regarding a strange presence.
Later on during the mission, you will come across a Jyuratodus that you must track down and kill.
Walkthrough
When starting out, you will first need to head out of the camp area and search for traces of the scholar nearby.
Eventually once you find the trace of the scholar, you will be able to follow your scoutflies to more tracks and will be able to head to his location.
Once you arrive at a swamp, you will be near the scholar but will have to continue following the scoutflies as they lead you to sector 11.
Along the way you will find blue scoutflies marking a mysterious creature that did a number of damage to the area.
Once you are near the scholar, continue making your way towards him as he will be marked by a waypoint.
When you get near the scholar, a short cutscene will play and a Jyuratodus will appear and you will save the scholar.
The cutscene pretty much introduces the Jyuratodus into the quest and you will then have to hunt and kill it.
The moment the cutscene is over, be ready for a fight and start attacking the Jyuratodus to do as much damage as you can.
Once you have done enough damage, the Jyuratodus will attempt to flee but this can be countered if you can deal successive damage and stun it, allowing you to kill it then and there.
Should the Jyuratodus get the chance to flee after you have dealt a certain amount of damage, it will swim away to the other side of the swamp or even head up the small waterfalls.
You may have to chase after the Jyuratodus 1 or 2 times depending on how much damage you can inflict and how fast you can deal the damage.
Once you kill the Jyuratodus, the mission will come to an end.
Quest Rewards
Completing the Sinister Shadows In The Swamp quest will reward you with 3240 Zenny and after a cutscene where you are briefed for the next quest, you will be able to do the Flying Sparks: Tobi-Kodachi quest.
Tips
- The Jyuratodus will be a ta great disadvantage if you can keep yourself out of the mud but fighting it in its own habitat is still very doable.
- Staying near cliffs or other wall-like areas will sometimes prevent the Jyuratodus from moving properly, giving you openings for easy shots or combos.
- Keep a lookout for Gajau that roam the area as they can be quite a nuisance when they notice you nearby.
