MHW Hammer Weapon

The Hammer is a heavy hitting blunt weapon that can knock over monsters and open them up to heavier slam attacks which allows excellent mobility with the only drawback of being unable to cut monster tails.

A devastating weapon against monsters with its heavy blunt damage that stuns or knocks them over while pummeling them relentlessly, breaking their horns and thick armor plates.

This guide will provide all of the strongest craftable Hammers and their resource trees as well as the various attacks that can be performed along with insight of what to expect from using it.

Attacks

Overhead Smash/Big Bang

This attack can be performed with your initial attack and if your attack happens to go through, it will be a Hammer Strike and will chain into the Rising Hammer strike.

If it does not go through your target, it will bounce and result in a Bang instead that will bounce a couple of times leading to a Big Bang Strike.

Rising Hammer

Following your initial 3 hit combo, this attack swing goes from the bottom going up that can easily knock over enemies or hit the head to apply the KO status.

Big Bang

This is initiated after the 4 Bang and will go into the Big Bang that will ignore tough hide and power through to deal a much more devastating attack.

This can also apply the KO status but hits lower or is more effective for monsters already on the ground.

Charge/Power Charge

Like the Great Sword you can charge your hammer to unleash a heavy attack but with this attack you can hold on to your charge as it drains stamina to do either of the two types of attacks which are the Charged Heavy Bang or the Spinning Hammer.

As another ability of the charge it can be channeled into the weapon as a buff for more damage which can only stack once that lasts for some time this charge will make your weapon glow and can be used in a charge attack to deal heavier damage.

Spinning Bludgeon

This is done by releasing your charge while you are moving forward, dealing as much damage as the Strike or Bang attacks but with rapid succession as you continue to spin.

Charged Big Bang

This attack hits harder than the standard Heavy Bang but can be initiated after a charge without the need of consecutively hitting with your Bang strikes.

Jumping Charge Attack

This attack is initiated after jumping off a ledge or scalable surfaces and will deal significant damage and can also mount the monster after hitting.

Falling Spinning Hammer

This attack can only be initiated while running up walls while charging, as you spin this will deal multiple instances of damage if the hammer hits the target going down, then it will end with a Heavy Bang.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • High Weapon Damage
  • Innate KO status damage.
  • Fast movements.

Cons

  • Cannot cut monster tails.
  • Attacks that miss embed the hammer to the ground.

Overview

The Hammer’s size alone shows its might and regardless of who wields it, a lot of devastation is sure to follow for those who are targeted.

With this weapon you don’t need openings to unleash your fury against monsters and you can instead rush in to create your own, ignoring enemy defenses with your powerful attacks.

Overall, this weapon compliments hunters with a more straightforward style that likes to just keep hitting the monster and smacking them around, knocking them over or stunning them in order to continuously smash them until they are dead or weak enough to be captured.
