Fish Oil is a resource that was introduced when the Plains of Eidolon first came out and is used in crafting various items from that update.
While this resource is not directly dropped from enemies, it can be obtained by fishing and processing the fish you catch.
Although Fish Oil may only be needed occasionally, using the proper techniques allows you to gather a substantial amount efficiently.
Where To Get Fish Oil?
Fish Oil can only be obtained when you are at Cetus, as it must be processed within the village, which is located on the Plains of Eidolon on Earth.
You can head to Cetus via the Navigation menu or enter it from the Plains of Eidolon by traveling toward the gate entrance.
How To Get Fish Oil?
Before obtaining Fish Oil, you need to catch fish in the Plains of Eidolon and bring them back to Cetus for processing.
Once in Cetus, speak to Fisher Hai-Luk and select the Cut Fish option, which opens a menu where you can choose which fish to process.
The type and size of the fish determine the amount of Fish Oil you will receive, along with other resources related to that fish.
You can select multiple fish at once and specify how many to cut, with processing more fish providing a larger total yield of Fish Oil.

Fish Oil Farm Technique
Catching fish is not that hard in the Plains of Eidolon and you should know the fish well and make sure you have one of each spear.
Using the right spear can help you catch fish with a single hit, making it faster for you to collect a lot by the end of your session.
We suggest that you find a good spot where there is a lot of water, far away from enemies that can attack you while you fish.
Using bait and Luminous Dye is suggested as these can make it easier for fish to appear, especially with the dye highlighting them.
After you have obtained a lot of fish, you can head back to Cetus to have them cut, providing you with a ton of Fish Oil.
Recommended Fishing Gear
To fish efficiently in the Plains of Eidolon, it’s important to use the right Fishing Spear for the type of fish you’re targeting.
Standard spears can catch most fish, but specialized spears allow one-hit captures, making Murkrays, Karkina, and other high-yield fish much faster to acquire.
Using bait can increase fish spawn rates, while Luminous Dye highlights fish in the water, making it easier to locate and target them quickly.
Equipping multiple spears and having them ready in your Gear Wheel ensures you can handle different fish types without constantly returning to Cetus, maximizing Fish Oil farming efficiency.
Verdict
Fish Oil is one of the easiest resources you can get as long as you can set aside some of your time to go fishing in the Plains of Eidolon and visit Fisher Hai-Luk to have them processed.
You can sometimes catch fish with a single throw of your Fishing Spear and they tend to respawn after a few seconds or minutes, making this an efficient way of getting tons.
If you want to get your hands on a lot of Fish Oil, it’s best to target Murkrays and Karkina as they provide a lot of Fish Oil when processed by Hai-Luk.
