Season of the Deep brought a lot of new things to Destiny 2 and one of these is the ability to go fishing in different locations.
Fishing was added to Destiny 2 and players can now catch fish, get rewards, and even display them in an aquarium afterward.
Not only does this help provide players with more to do to get a reputation during the season, but they can get their hands on some pretty good gear in the process.
How To Fish in Destiny 2?
To do fishing in Destiny 2, you will first need to obtain the Fishing Tackle container, which can be done by accepting the Gone Fishin’ quest from the Sonar Station.
This later sets you off to complete a quest where you learn how to get Bait, find fishing ponds, and catch fish before turning them in.
Once you have completed the quest, you will be free to go fishing whenever you like by finding a fishing pond and interacting with the fishing area.
How Fishing Works?
Once fishing is available, head to a fishing pond to cast your line by pressing the “interact” key/button and wait for the fish to bite.
Press the “interact” key/button again to catch the fish (do it quickly for a perfect catch) and the fish will be tossed near you.
Move over to the fish to pick it up and you can later deposit it in the Sonar Station at the H.E.L.M. for rewards depending on how many you have.
What is Focused Fishing?
While not much is explained about Focused Fishing, you will notice that there is a meter on your screen when you are fishing.
The more players that are catching fish in the area, the more it will increase and as this happens, you are notified that more fish have begun to gather.
It seems that the higher the meter goes, the faster you will be able to gather fish, and some believe that it also increases the rarity of the fish you catch.
How to Increase Focused Fishing Meter?
Increasing the Focused Fishing Meter is a team effort as it goes up when players are fishing in an area, which means you need to stay and continue to fish.
If you have buddies playing with you, it would be good to invite them when you go fishing to ensure the Focused Fishing Meter goes up quickly.
If you are solo, you will eventually come across a group that is fishing and it would be ideal to join them and fish too.
All Fishing Spots (Fishing Pond Locations)
Fishing can only be done at a Fishing Pond and there are currently three areas where you can go to find them in your destination menu.
The destinations with a Fishing Pond are:
Fishing Bait
While it is mentioned that you can fish without any Fishing Bait, it is still good to go through the process of obtaining them. (Complete activities to get some)
Fishing Bait will automatically be used when you are fishing and the amount you have will be seen every time you are about to cast your line.
When you catch fish using Fishing Bait, there will be a better chance to get rare fish, and this can sometimes lead to you getting exotic ones.
Fishing Tips
A good way to save time on fishing is to continuously fish until there are a lot that have been dropped on the ground as you can pick them up later.
It is also good to be ready for when you hear the alert as this can get you a perfect catch when you time it right to get better fish.
If there is no fishing pond present in the area, you can fast travel to the destination again and this may move you to another session.
Fishing Rewards
Turning in fish will get you Sonar Station Reputation but higher quality fish will also provide you with some goodies based on what quality you have caught.
Exotic fishes will reward you with random Exotic gear while Legendary items will provide you with Reprised Reckoning weapons from Season of the Drifter.
Lower-quality fish will reward you with Sonar Station Reputation and it is also possible that as you turn in the fish, you will also get Deep Engrams or Legendary Shards.
Exotic Fish Pond
Exotic Fishing Ponds can be found now and then, which will provide you with a better chance to get more fish as well as a chance for higher quality ones.
These are good places to fish as not only will you have better fishing results, but you will also be able to fish with more Guardians, allowing you to boost the Focused Fishing meter.
Fishing ponds will rotate between the EDZ, Nessus, and Savathun’s Throne World and these can be checked by viewing the spots in each destination.
Fishing Report
Players have become fond of checking their progress and sharing how much they have done and with a Fishing Report, you can see all the fish that you have caught.
To generate a fishing report, you will need to head over to https://guardian.report/ to see all the fish you have caught.
This is a good way to see how much you have progressed with fishing and is also something you can use for bragging rights.

While fishing may not be the most action-packed activity that players can do, you can enjoy this and get rewards in the process.
It is best to try to get the Focused Fishing Meter up as soon as you can with other players to get better rewards and make catching fish easier.
Fish that you have stored will remain in the aquarium, which includes the rarer fishes that are worthy of being displayed.
