Starfield Ship Storage (Accessing, Capacity & Transferring Items)

If you like to grab a hold of tons of items to keep for yourself or to later sell to get some extra Credits, you will want to make sure you have a place to unload.

You may have already realized that your character’s weight capacity or MASS as it is called in the game has a limit, which becomes a problem if you go over the limit.

Luckily, you can use your ship’s Cargo Hold to store the items you want to keep so you can continue grabbing more loot before heading back to civilization.

How To Access Ship Storage?Accessing Ship Storage

There are two ways for you to access your ship’s storage and no it is not the location shown in the image above, but it can simply be done through your inventory.

While aboard your ship, you can open your inventory and switch to the Cargo Hold to view what is on your ship and you can also place items inside.

Another way to access the Cargo Hold is to head to a panel that is found inside the ship and access it like you would a container.

How to Store Items in a Ship (Cargo Hold)

There are two ways for you to transfer your items to your Ship’s Storage, which is either through the panel that gives you access to the Cargo Hold or through your inventory.

If you open the Cargo Hold through the panel, you will be able to switch to your inventory and store any item that you want. (You can transfer multiple items if you choose a certain category)

When opening the Cargo Hold from your inventory, you will need to choose a category from the Cargo Hold first before switching to your inventory to store your items.

Just because you have a large ship, that doesn’t mean you can haul as much as you want and expect things to be okay.

Each ship has its own MASS, which will limit how many items you can store in it, so make sure to double-check every time you head out or unload to be sure.

You can view the MASS capacity of your ship by opening its Cargo Hold menu, which should display it at the bottom next to your Credits.

How To Increase Ship Cargo Weight?

If you feel like your ship’s cargo storage is not enough, you can always upgrade it by speaking to a Ship Services Technician, which is often found at landing bays.

Upgrading allows you to replace parts without having to worry about fitting things but sometimes not everything can be upgraded this way.

Should you find your ship has insufficient space for Cargo Parts or more, you can always enter ship builder mode, which can also be done via the Ship Services Technician.

Verdict

Starfield has a lot of places for you to go and the amount of weight that you can carry is not even enough to hold all the goodies you want to bring back to sell or keep.

It is best to unload what you do not need into your Cargo Hold to make sure you travel light so you can come back with more loot, especially if you are collecting resources.

The more you progress through the game, the more you will be able to alter your ship, and this will solve any weight issues if you plan on having a lot of cargo onboard.

  1. Useless. What gaming mechanism do I use to switch between personal inventory and ships cargo? Repeating the same lines over and over does not answer the question!

    • When you open your inventory while aboard your ship or interact with the console found in the cockpit, you can switch between your inventory and the ship’s inventory by pressing (Q) for PC or (LB) for Xbox/Controller.
