The W-870 Shotgun, simply known as the W870, is a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun that fires a burst of buckshot at enemies, capable of knocking them back.
This weapon is one of the earliest weapons that you get in the game and offers a big amount of damage early on for instantly killing some of the weaker enemies.
It uses Shotgun Ammo and uses up 16 slots in your inventory but it is all worth it to grab this early on to make little work of most of the enemies you encounter.

W-870 Exclusive Upgrade
With its exclusive upgrade, the W-870 can have its power increased by 2x, making it have 20.2 power in total.
This allows the weapon to deal a lot of damage which is almost similar to that of a magnum, making it deadly at close range.
The W-870 can easily kill enemies with one hit, including tougher ones with a single or a few shots after this weapon has reached its full potential.
W-870 Shotgun Location
The W-870 can be found in the Village Square where you first encounter the villagers in the game while you search for traces of Ashley.
It can be found in the building next to the destroyed windmill, and can easily be obtained by simply heading upstairs and grabbing it.
How To Get W-870?
To get the W-870 you will need to go to the building next to the windmill and once you enter it, you will need to go up the stairs.
This can be accessed as soon as you reach the Village Square during your first encounter with the villagers there.
Once you head up the stairs, you will see the W-870 shotgun displayed on a wall and may interact with it to take it.
Additionally, you will be able to find a Grenade in the Cabinet, First Aid Spray downstairs as well as other loot and ammo.
Using the W-870 Shotgun
The W-870 has a wide spread when firing and is best used at close range to mid-range to deal the most damage to enemies.
A single shot from this weapon is capable of dismembering an enemy or even killing them with a single blast up close.
Weaker enemies will be staggered or knocked back after being shot with the W-870 shotgun when fired up close.
Shotgun Vs Riot Gun
The shotgun may be inferior to the riot gun in certain ways but since it’s a weapon you can get early on, it’s a good idea to grab it while you can.
The upgrades you can apply to the W870 make it good in its way, especially when it comes to shooting enemies up close.
Although the riot gun may be a better choice later on, the W-870 still has its good uses and will be a good choice of a weapon during the earlier chapters.
Verdict
Given that ammo is not that scarce in RE4R, the shotgun can be used quite often and you can switch to it easily since you can now use quick-slot weapons.
When enemies get too close to you, pulling out this bad boy is a good solution to almost any enemy that you can encounter in the game.
Keep in mind that this weapon can be upgraded and performs quite well when it has reached its full potential, making it a possible late-game weapon.
