A Fiery Throne Atop the Forest (Main Quest) in MHW

A Fiery Throne Atop the Forest mhw mission

  • Quest Type: Main Quest
  • Quest Location: Ancient Forest
  • Quest Rank: 5

Zorah Magdaros is still on the loose and it’s up to you to find out where it has gone missing but this cannot easily be done and you will need to look for the First Wyverian.

During an expedition, you will come across the First Wyverian and later on will need to prove yourself worthy by slaying a Rathalos in the A Fiery Throne Atop The Forest quest and a Diablos in the Horned Tyrant Below The Sands quest.

You will find the First Wyverian during this quest and the A Fiery Throne Atop The Forest will already be doable but it is still safe to head back to prepare.

This quest activates during the expedition and will be acceptable from the quest board along with Horned Tyrant Below The Sands after a cutscene.

Objectives

When starting out with the expedition for the first time you will need to locate the First Wyverian within the Ancient Forest.

Once the First Wyverian has been found, the A Fiery Throne Atop The Forest quest will begin and you will have to hunt a Rathalos as it is one of the targets picked out for you by the First Wyverian.

Walkthrough

When starting the expedition, you will first need to locate the First Wyverian which can be done by following the scoutflies or simply by heading to Sector 16.

You will eventually need to head for the highest area in the Ancient Forest to be able to proceed with the quest.

Once reached the area, a short cutscene will play where you and The Handler are attacked by a Ratholos and manage to escape where you meet the First Wyverian.

From here on the A Fiery Throne Atop The Forest and Horned Tyrant Below The Sands will be available.

If you proceed with the quest, you will need to track the Rathalos down which eventually brings you back to its nest.

Deciding to leave in order to make preparations will cause you to later on pick a camp to start off in and by the time Northeast Camp (11) should most likely be available.

Either when continuing during the expedition or starting from a camp, you will be able to find the Rathalos’ tracks and will be able to track it to its nest around Sector 16.

Once you have tracked down the Rathalos, start attacking it and try to damage it as much as you can before it takes off.

Dealing enough damage will cause it to flee and you will have to hurry up and chase it to whichever area it heads off to before it flies off from there.

You will most likely need to chase after the monster twice before it returns to its nesting area and once it returns to its resting area.

Depending on how much damage you deal, you will have to chase after it a certain amount of times.

When the Rathalos is about to die, it will head back to Sector 16 where it will lie down in an attempt to recover.

Take the opportunity to prepare before you begin dealing out the final attacks to make sure you can take it out as fast as possible.

Quest Rewards

Upon completion of the A Fiery Throne Atop The Forest quest, you will be rewarded with 5400 Zenny.

If the Horned Tyrant Below The Sands quest has been finished, a quest called A Colossal Task will later on be available.

Tips

  • The Ratholos prefer to be in higher areas but will follow you to lower areas if you are in the middle of the fight and decide to relocate nearby.
  • Capable of dealing fire damage from its breath and poison from its melee attacks, the Rathalos should be dealt with carefully to avoid sudden death which can be done by timing attacks and moving to its side or behind it when it breathes fire or recovers from an attack.
  • Be sure to have a few Antidotes with you just in case you get poisoned as it can unnoticeably lead to your demise.
