How To Get & Use Catalysts in Diablo 4 (Season 9)

Diablo 4’s Season 9 introduced a Seasonal Feature called Horadric Spellcraft, which allows you to choose a certain Catalyst to alter one of your spells.

Catalysts can be equipped to provide certain effects to your spells, which activate at the same time you cast them with varying cooldowns.

There are a total of 5 Catalysts that you can obtain that each unlocks a Catalyst Spell, and these are obtained as you progress through the season.

Where To Get Catalysts?

Obtaining Catalysts is done in various locations, as these are rewarded upon the completion of certain Seasonal Quests from Sins of the Horadrim.

To obtain Catalysts, you will need to progress with the Seasonal Questline and will eventually be able to unlock them.

Most of the Catalyst will be obtained in Cerrigar, as this is where you head back to complete most of your quests for the Seasonal Questline and claim rewards.

How To Get Catalysts?

As mentioned earlier, you get Catalysts in Season 9 by completing specific quests along the Seasonal Questline from Sins of the Horadrim.

Progressing through the Seasonal Questline is the only way for you to obtain all of the Catalysts, which requires you to complete each quest that you receive.

The first Catalyst that you obtain comes from a reward from the Seasonal Reputation, which is Horadric Knowledge that can be accessed from the Horadric Focus in Cerrigar.

List of All Catalysts and How to Get Them

1) Celestial Surge – Awakens an Oracular Rune that pulls in enemies while a torrent of stars follows to randomly strike in the area 20 times. (Rewarded by claiming Tier 1 Rewards from Horadric Focus)

2) Astral Pillar – Creates an Ethereal Column that taunts enemies for a certain duration while also unleashing piercing waves to deal damage to enemies. (Reward for completing “Bearing the Weight of Ghosts” seasonal quest)

3) Disintegrate – Creates an Arcane Conductor that releases a beam between itself and you, which deals continuous damage over 8 seconds. (Reward for completing “Keepers of the Glen” seasonal quest)

4) Propulsion – Creates a Mana Blast that deals damage and knocks back enemies, causing those that collide to take additional damage. (Reward for completing “To Walk Where Spirits Tread” Seasonal Quest)

5) Cosmic Anomaly – Passively manifests 5 Anomalies that follow you around, which unleash projectiles at enemies to deal damage over 4 seconds. Activating this skill will send the anomalies to your enemies to self-destruct, and before they are manifested again. (Reward for completing “The Unseeable Demands Their Gaze” Seasonal Quest)

How To Use Catalysts?

To use a Catalyst, you may open up your inventory and select to equip a spell in one of your skill slots, which will cause its effects to affect them.

Only one Catalyst may be equipped at a time, and whichever skill is in the related slot will be the only one that is affected.

Catalysts may further be upgraded by equipping 1 Infusion to alter its element and up to 3 Arcanas to provide bonus effects.

Verdict

Catalysts play a vital role in Season 9, allowing you to choose a base spell to add to one of the skills that you utilize with your character.

Further upgrading your Catalyst with Horadric Phials will improve its stats, while reaching a certain rank with it will provide additional effects.

Combining a Catalyst, Infusion, and Arcanas will allow you to craft a powerful spell that can be the center of your build throughout the season to dominate your enemies.
