For Tenno who have mastered the Origin System and carved a path through countless missions, a far greater challenge awaits: the Steel Path.
This mode takes everything familiar about Warframe and cranks it to the extreme, turning enemies into brutal, heavily armored versions of themselves with far higher levels, shields, and health.
Surviving the Steel Path is no easy feat. The rewards are equally intense, offering rare loot, Steel Essence, and the satisfaction of proving your skill against the toughest opponents the game has to offer.
The Steel Path Requirements
To unlock the Steel Path, players must meet several prerequisites, after which Teshin will invite them to take on this harder challenge.
Essentially, you need to unlock all Star Chart nodes that existed before The New War update, excluding Duviri, Zariman Ten Zero, Albrecht’s Laboratories, and Höllvania nodes.
Some nodes require completing specific quests, like Chimera Prologue for the Ropalolyst and Heart of Deimos, so finishing these is necessary to fully unlock all applicable nodes.
How To Activate The Steel Path?
Once all requirements for The Steel Path are met, you can activate it by talking to Teshin at any Relay, not directly through the Star Chart.
Activating Steel Path modifies all standard Star Chart missions, Dark Sectors, and eligible Landscape nodes with tougher enemies and locked nodes, which must be completed to progress.
You can switch back to the normal Star Chart at any time by speaking to Teshin again, reverting all nodes to their regular difficulty while leaving progress intact.
Steel Path Rewards
Activating The Steel Path doubles the chance for resource and mod drops across all eligible missions, making farming much more efficient than in normal mode.
Completing mission nodes, Dark Sectors, and Junctions awards Mastery Points just like regular missions, helping players increase their Mastery Rank while tackling harder enemies.
Eximus enemies gain a higher chance to drop Riven Slivers, and all enemies in Steel Path missions have increased loot potential, making rare mods, Arcanes, and resources more accessible.
Players also earn additional Steel Essence through Incursions, Void Fissures, Eidolon Hunts, and Acolyte encounters, which can be spent at Teshin’s Steel Path Honors shop for valuable rewards.
Steel Essence
Steel Essence can be earned by participating in various activities in The Steel Path, and it is used to purchase items from Teshin, who can be found at any Relay.
Every day, six Steel Path Incursions appear on the Star Chart, and completing each one rewards you with 5 Steel Essence, giving a steady way to stock up over time.
Completing all mission nodes on a planet grants 25 Steel Essence, meaning that clearing the entire Star Chart in Steel Path mode can give you a total of 475 Steel Essence without relying on boosters.
Void Fissures also grant Steel Essence, with 1 awarded for each Void Relic opened, providing another source for farming this currency while running regular missions.
Eidolon Hunts on the Steel Path continue to reward Steel Essence, with each Teralyst, Gantulyst, and Hydrolyst granting a payout, making high-level Eidolon farming more rewarding.
Encounters with Acolytes guarantee 2 Steel Essence per defeat, giving another consistent source of this currency while also allowing you to farm Steel Path Arcanes at the same time.
Enemy Scaling in The Steel Path
The Steel Path raises enemy levels across the Star Chart by 100 and gives most enemies 2.5 times more health and shields, making combat significantly tougher.
Special enemies get extra adjustments, with Eidolon Teralysts at level 110, Gantulysts at 120, Hydrolysts at 130, and Archwing enemies receiving moderate level boosts depending on the tileset.
Duviri enemies also gain a level increase, but their health, shields, and armor remain unchanged, while bosses like the Orowyrm get additional mechanics that require strategy and teamwork.
Acolytes and Elite Spawns
Acolytes can spawn in most Steel Path missions, appearing at intervals based on enemy kill rate, with a maximum of three in non-endless missions.
They do not spawn from kills made by Specters or On Call Crew, and submersible missions on Uranus are still valid locations for their appearance.
Defeating an Acolyte guarantees 2 Steel Essence and also drops a Steel Path Arcane, making them both a challenge and a reward opportunity for well-prepared squads.
Steel Path Rewards Shop
Steel Essence is earned in Steel Path missions and can be spent at Teshin’s Steel Path Honors shop in any Relay to purchase both evergreen and weekly rotating items.
Evergreen items include Veiled Riven Ciphers, Kuva, Void Relic packs, Arcane Adapters, and Warframe cosmetics or decorations, offering both practical and aesthetic benefits.
Weekly rotating rewards feature high-value items like Umbra Forma Blueprints, Kitgun and Zaw Riven Mods, and large Endo bundles, encouraging consistent Steel Path play.
Verdict
The Steel Path turns familiar missions into high-stakes challenges, forcing players to rethink loadouts, tactics, and teamwork while facing enemies that hit harder and endure far longer.
Rewards like increased resource drops, Mastery Points, and Steel Essence make the added difficulty worthwhile, giving players tangible benefits for pushing through the elevated threat levels.
Success on the Steel Path comes down to preparation, adaptability, and patience, and those who embrace the challenge will find it both satisfying and consistently rewarding.
