The Nether is an activity that was added to Destiny 2 with the release of Episode: Heresy and serves as a main activity for the episode.
This involves delving into the Dreadnaught where you face several enemies in different parts of the ship where you have complete objectives.
Guardians may take part in this activity, get an abundant amount of loot and quickly progress with their reputation with the Shaping Slab during the episode.
How To Unlock The Nether Activity?
During the earlier parts of Episode: Heresy, you will be able to begin with the main story for the episode that has you following Drifter and Eris morn.
After completing your first run of The Nether in the Act I: Echoed Warnings quest, The Nether activity will be available as a playable activity.
You may find The Nether activity by opening your Destinations Menu and selecting The Lost City and may choose between a matchmaking session or a private one.
The Nether Mechanics
Starting The Nether activity will place you in 1 of 5 locations aboard the Dreadnaught and you will be able to complete up to 3 locations.
In each location, there will be marked areas where you need to complete certain objectives that are meant to put the Dreadnaught at a disadvantage.
After completing 3 objectives, a boss will appear in a specific location and you will need to defeat them to claim rewards from a chest.
Once a boss has been defeated, you may proceed to the next area, which will be shown on your radar but picked at random.
This includes the following areas:
- The Mausoleum
- Hall of Souls
- The Founts
- Trenchway
- Hull Breach
All Bosses and How To Defeat Them?
1) Kelrosh, Spawn Keeper (The Mausoleum)
Kelrosh the Spawn Keeper, who is also known as the Taken Cluster Keeper, is a massive enemy that is fought in The Mausoleum.
Taking out this boss requires you to reduce his health to half, which will make him immune to damage until you destroy all the Taken Clusters in the area.
Once you have destroyed the Taken Clusters, Kelrosh will be vulnerable, and you will be able to finish him off for good.
2) Herald of the Weapon (Hall of Souls)
The Herald of the Weapon is the boss that is encountered in the Hall of Souls, who is also known as the Subjugator that you fight after destroying the weapon systems.
This boss will have 3 bars of health and whenever one is taken out, he will become immune to damage, and you will need to clear out the other enemies.
Once the other enemies are cleared out, you may continue to damage him again and will need to repeat this until he is defeated. (Watch out though, he may be healed while immune)
3) Hashon of Endless Horrors (The Founts)
Hashon of Endless Horrors, who is also known as the Taken Entity appears to be a type of Chimera found aboard the Dreadnaught.
This enemy attacks from a distance and can cause the ground to be corrupted, making it necessary to move often while you attack.
After dealing enough damage, this boss becomes immune, and you will need to destroy the marked Taken Orbs to finish him off.
4) Lezrel, Eversion Channeler (Trenchway)
Lezrel, Eversion Channeler is also known as the Tormentor and acts as the boss that you fight at the end of the Trenchway locations.
This boss will attack you with all its might and can be quite deadly, but things get even worse once you reduce his health by a certain portion.
You will need to defeat the enemies that are linked to it as soon as possible and take it out before it starts healing. (He heals quickly if you leave the area where you fight him)
5) Irkaril of Xivu Arath (Hull Breach)
Irkaril of Xivu Arath is a powerful Hive Warlock that can be found right away in the Hull Breach location but won’t attack unless you have completed 3 objectives in the area.
Once you have completed the 3 objectives, Irkaril of Xivu Arath will attack you with ranged attacks and will be high off the ground as well as immune to damage.
To make this boss vulnerable to damage, you will need to defeat the Ogres that spawn near it, which are called Grafted of Xivu. (Each one allows you to take out half of Irkaril’s health)
The Nether Boons
While venturing into The Nether activity, you will be able to obtain Boons by picking them up when enemies are defeated, pots are destroyed, chests are opened, and more.
Collecting a Boon will give you certain bonuses depending on which ones you find, and these will remain until the end of the activity.
If you happen to collect a certain number of Boons in The Nether, these will provide you with Faded Scrolls that you can check at the Mysterium.
Faded Scrolls cause you to gain more stacks when picking up Boons in The Nether, giving you an even bigger advantage during the activity.
Notable Collectible Materials
Sigil Shards
Sigil Shards are a type of material that you may obtain in The Nether and these often come from destroying pots, opening chests, or destroying Sigil Stones.
Sigil Stone may drop when you defeat enemies and this doesn’t just happen in The Nether, Sigil Stones may drop at other destinations too.
Fleeting Metastasized Essentia
Fleeting Metastasized Essentia is vital for progressing with your Reputation Rank with the Shaping Slab as you can get a ton from turning them in.
Collecting these will allow you to turn them into Metastasized Essentia if you successfully defeat a boss and open the chests that appear.
Notable Pickups
Revives
Extra Revives are important in The Nether Activity because once you are out, being defeated will result in the activity failing.
There are times when you can pick up Extra Revives from chests, destroyable pots, and other sources that will allow you to keep going.
Health Orbs
Since healing is different in The Nether, you may find yourself having to be more careful but if your health is low, Healing Orbs can be a huge advantage.
Healing Orbs may drop from sources such as defeated enemies and destroyed pots, which makes it important to grab these whenever they are available.
The Nether Activity Rewards
During The Nether Activity, you will be able to open chests that provide you with various loots, which include Legendary Gear from Episode: Heresy.
Opening chests that you find around the different areas will also provide you with Episodic Weapons and Sigil Shards.
Metastasized Essentia will be obtained when you have collected Fleeting Metastasized Essentia and have defeated a boss. (This converts them)
Verdict
The Nether serves as the main activity for Episode: Heresy and is a great way to get your hands on a lot of new loot that goes well with the Tablet of Ruin.
As you progress through The Nether, the different Boons that you pick up may affect the outcome of your run, especially if you get a ton of them.
It would be a good idea to use the Tome of Want to get extra loot while doing runs of The Nether as this will provide you with several rewards quickly as you complete objectives.
