Sigil Shards is a type of currency that was added when Episode: Heresy came out and is one of the farmable items from the Nether.
This currency plays a huge role in progressing during the episode as it is needed for Runic Enhancements that benefit Guardians when they delve into the Nether.
Sigil Shards are obtained in small amounts but several of these are needed, making it necessary to know exactly how to get them if you want an advantage when exploring the Nether.
How To Farm Sigil Shards?
Obtaining Sigil Shards can be done by delving into the Nether activity, which can be started from The Last City’s Destination Menu.
1) Destroying Sigil Stones
Sigil Stones can be found from time to time when you defeat enemies and these can drop in other locations aside from within the Dreadnaught.
Destroying Sigil Stones will provide you with at least 3 Sigil Shards as well as provide you with Reputation with the Shaping Slab.
2) Opening Chests (Nether Activity)
The Nether will have several chests that you can find, and these can be opened to obtain loot, which will always contain a certain amount of Sigil Shards.
This makes the Nether activity grinding one of the more common things that you will due during Episode Heresy.
3) Rank Rewards
Progressing with your Reputation Rank with the Shaping Slab will allow you to collect various Rank Rewards, which include a large amount of Sigil Shards.
While this is not the most efficient way to get Sigil Shards, the large amount that you get can be useful as you progress through the episode.
4) Rewards Chests (Nether Activity)
After completing some of the major parts during a Nether activity such as defeating the Taken Cluster Keeper or the Tormentor, you will be able to collect your rewards.
These rewards can be obtained from a chest that spawns after you have completed the major objectives, allowing you to get your hands on loot, which includes Sigil Shards.
Sigil Shards Uses
Sigil Shards are used to unlock Runic Enhancements, which are used to provide you with advantages in the Nether activity.
Each of the Rune Castings will provide you with different effects and will cost a certain amount of Sigil Shards to unlock.
Once you have unlocked these runes, you will be able to slot them to make use of their effects but the amount of these that may be activated depends on your Nether Enhancement Level.

- Arising Rune – Your first death does not consume a revive token.
- Prosperity Rune – Harvesting materials provides Sigil Shards.
- Essentia Rune – You retain a small portion of Metastasized Essentia on activity failure.
- Recuperation Rune – Healing Orbs reduce ability cooldown.
- Renewal Rune – Fully heal after completing a Midnight encounter.
- Defense Rune – Healing Orbs provide an overshield.
- Scotopic Rune – Weapon icons become visible above Taken chests.
- Plentiful Rune – +1 during Major Boon selection.
- Beneficence Rune – Boon selection occurs at activity start and maybe a Major or Corrupted Boon.
- Healing Rune – Healing Orbs are more effective.

When it comes to farming Sigil Shards, it is a good idea to have the Prosperity Rune unlocked and activated to increase the amount that you can get on your runs.
Unlocking Runic Enhancements whenever possible is the best way to prepare yourself to dominate the Nether activity.
Acquiring and utilizing the Runic Enhancements that improve survivability will allow you to last longer in the Nether activity, which may sometimes be the best ones to activate first.
