Season of Hell’s Legacy brings plenty of rewards for pushing through the Season Ranks, but some of the coolest are saved for the later Capstone challenges.
Among them is the Dark Wanderbear, a Dark Wanderer-inspired Pet wearing a tattered red hood, dark armor, and a skull-like mask.
Getting this unusual companion requires reaching Torment VI and completing Durance of Hate (Nightmare) before claiming your Season Rank VI Capstone rewards.
How To Get Dark Wanderbear?
The Dark Wanderbear is obtained from the Season Rank VI Capstone Rewards, which become claimable after completing Durance of Hate (Nightmare).
This Waking Nightmare becomes available once you reach Torment VI and serves as the Capstone challenge needed to complete Season Rank VI.
After defeating the Echo of Mephisto and completing Durance of Hate, open the Season Rank menu and claim your Capstone rewards to unlock the Pet.
Keep in mind that the Dark Wanderbear does not drop directly from Mephisto, so you will still need to claim it through the Season Rank menu afterward.
How To Reach Torment VI?
Before you can obtain the Dark Wanderbear, you will first need to progress far enough into the endgame to unlock Torment VI.
This requires completing Artificer’s Tier 40 or higher, which unlocks Torment VI and allows you to take on content requiring this difficulty.
Season Rank VI also includes Knock at the Gate of Hell, which requires completing Artificer’s Tier 40 or higher and upgrading three Paragon Glyphs to Rank 30.
Once Torment VI has been unlocked, you can attempt Durance of Hate (Nightmare) and work toward completing the Capstone.
Complete Durance of Hate (Nightmare)
Diablo II – Durance of Hate (Nightmare) is one of the major Waking Nightmares introduced during Season of Hell’s Legacy and is set to Tier 45 on Torment VI.
You will need to fight through the dungeon and complete its objectives before eventually reaching the final encounter against the Echo of Mephisto.
Defeating the Echo of Mephisto completes Durance of Hate (Nightmare), fulfilling the main Capstone requirement needed to finish Season Rank VI.
Once completed, return to your Season Rank menu and claim the Capstone rewards to receive the Dark Wanderbear.
How To Equip Dark Wanderbear?
After claiming the Dark Wanderbear, visit your Wardrobe and select Modify Pets to view all of the Pet appearances currently unlocked on your account.
Select the Dark Wanderbear from Pet Looks, equip it, and the bear will begin accompanying your character throughout Sanctuary.
You can return to the Wardrobe whenever you want to switch back to another Pet appearance you have unlocked.
What Does Dark Wanderbear Do?
The Dark Wanderbear functions the same as other Pets, following your character and automatically collecting certain materials and currencies dropped by enemies.
Using the Dark Wanderbear does not provide additional damage, defenses, or other combat bonuses compared to choosing another Pet.
Its main appeal is its unique appearance, allowing you to use the Dark Wanderer-inspired design without losing the normal convenience provided by Pets.
Dark Wanderbear Appearance
The Dark Wanderbear takes clear inspiration from the Dark Wanderer, giving the Pet a much darker appearance than many of the other companions available in Diablo 4.
It wears a tattered red hood and cloak around its head, with dark pieces of armor strapped across its back and a skull-like mask covering its face.
These details make the Dark Wanderbear fit naturally with the returning characters, locations, and other references featured throughout Season of Hell’s Legacy.

Unlocking the Dark Wanderbear requires reaching the later stages of Season Rank progression, with Durance of Hate (Nightmare) standing between you and the Pet.
Once you can handle Torment VI, defeating the Echo of Mephisto completes the required Capstone and allows you to claim the Dark Wanderbear from Season Rank VI.
The Pet provides the same functionality as other companions, but its Dark Wanderer-inspired appearance makes it a fitting reward for progressing through Season of Hell’s Legacy.
