Palworld: All Status Conditions & Effects

Palworld’s toughest fights are not always won by simply stacking more damage, especially when a well-timed effect can completely change how an enemy behaves.

Burning a target for extra damage, freezing it before a dangerous attack, or soaking it before switching to Electric attacks can create openings that raw damage cannot.

With different effects available through Pals, Active Skills, weapons, environmental hazards, and Partner Skills, knowing what each status does can make a major difference in combat.

What Are Status Conditions?

Status conditions are temporary negative effects that can be inflicted on players, Pals, and other NPCs through attacks, environmental hazards, and certain Partner Skills.

They range from damage-over-time effects like Burn and Poison to conditions that interfere with movement, accuracy, or a target’s ability to act.

Understanding which effects work together is particularly useful when building a team around specific elements, capture bonuses, or Partner Skills that gain additional benefits against afflicted enemies.

How Are Status Conditions Applied?

Most status conditions are built up through repeated attacks rather than being guaranteed with every hit, with each applicable attack adding its own amount toward that effect’s threshold.

Once enough buildup is accumulated, the condition activates and its buildup resets, while different status types maintain separate buildup values during combat.

Certain Active Skills have particularly strong status application, while some Partner Skills allow the player’s own attacks to build a specific condition without requiring a specialized weapon or skill.

Stun works differently from the normal buildup system, activating through specific attacks and interactions instead of following the standard aggregate threshold used by most other status conditions.

Partner Skills That Provide Status Buildup

Some Partner Skills give your attacks status buildup, allowing you to work toward an effect without relying entirely on your Pal’s Active Skills.

Every successful hit adds buildup toward the status threshold, and once enough buildup is reached, the target receives the corresponding effect.

This works especially well with weapons that attack quickly, since more hits give you more chances to build the status during a fight.

Pals like Renjishi, Ophydia, Venusa, and Dandilord can add Burn, Soak, Blind, and Poison buildup respectively, giving you different ways to build around status effects.

All Status Conditions and Effects

1) Burn

Burn deals damage over time to the affected target and is primarily associated with Fire-based attacks, skills, weapons, and environmental hazards.

The damage continues while you attack or reposition, making Burn one of the simplest and most reliable status conditions for adding steady damage during combat.

2) Poison

Poison deals damage over time and has the unique advantage of remaining active alongside another status condition during combat.

This makes Poison particularly useful for status-focused setups, allowing its damage to continue while you apply and take advantage of another effect.

3) Soak

Soak slows the affected target while also changing how it receives elemental damage for the duration of the condition.

Soaked targets take increased Electric damage but reduced Fire damage, making the effect especially useful when followed by powerful Electric attacks.

4) Freeze

Freeze temporarily prevents the affected target from acting, giving you an opening to attack without immediately dealing with another incoming move.

The brief window can be useful against dangerous enemies when you need time to reposition, heal, or land additional damage.

5) Electrify

Electrify inflicts an Electric-based status effect that interferes with the affected target and can create useful openings during combat.

The condition works particularly well alongside Soak, since Soaked targets take increased Electric damage and can be punished with stronger Electric attacks.

6) Blind

Blind reduces the affected target’s ability to accurately track its surroundings and respond to attacks during combat.

This can make enemy attacks less reliable and give you more opportunities to reposition, attack from another angle, or avoid incoming damage.

7) Muddy

Muddy is a status condition that affects the target and can interact with certain attacks and Partner Skills designed specifically around the effect.

Its main value comes from setups that provide additional benefits against Muddy targets, making it more useful when paired with the right Pal or attack.

8) Ivy-Covered

Ivy-Covered applies a plant-based effect that restricts the affected target and can create additional opportunities during combat or capture attempts.

Certain Partner Skills and attacks can take advantage of Ivy-Covered targets, giving the condition more value when used as part of a dedicated setup.

9) Sleep

Sleep temporarily puts the affected target into an inactive state, preventing it from acting while the condition remains active.

It provides a useful opening for attacking or repositioning, although the effect ends once its duration expires or the target is disturbed.

10) Stun

Stun temporarily prevents the affected target from acting and can interrupt attacks that would otherwise be difficult to avoid during combat.

Its immediate control makes it useful for creating short openings, especially when you need to stop an enemy before it can complete a dangerous attack.

Status Conditions and Pal Capture

Status conditions can help when capturing Pals, with several effects providing a multiplier to your chance of successfully catching the target.

Burn, Poison, Soak, Freeze, Electrify, Muddy, Ivy-Covered, and Blind each provide a 1.09× capture chance multiplier while the effect is active.

This gives you another way to improve difficult captures, especially when the target has already been weakened and you can safely keep the status active.

Can Status Conditions Stack?

Most status conditions cannot remain active alongside another condition, so applying a different status will generally overwrite the effect currently affecting the target.

Poison is the main exception, allowing it to remain active alongside another status and continue dealing damage while the second effect is active.

This makes the order of your attacks important when using status-focused setups, particularly when you want to maintain a specific effect for its elemental or combat benefits.

Status Resistance and Reapplying Effects

After a status condition activates, applying that same condition again becomes harder as the target builds resistance during the fight.

The required buildup threshold doubles with each successful application, making repeated use of the same status increasingly difficult during longer encounters.

Because this resistance remains until combat ends, switching between useful conditions can be more effective than repeatedly forcing one status.

Elemental Immunities

Certain Pals are naturally immune to status conditions associated with their elemental type, preventing those effects from being applied during combat.

Fire Pals are immune to Burn, Water Pals to Soak, Dark Pals to Blind, Electric Pals to Electrify, and Ground Pals to Muddy.

Knowing these immunities before a fight prevents you from wasting attacks on ineffective conditions and lets you choose a status that can actually affect the target.

Using Status Conditions in Combat

Status conditions become more useful when combined with attacks or Partner Skills that specifically benefit from having a target affected.

Burn and Poison provide damage over time, while Soak can set up stronger Electric attacks and Freeze or Stun can create valuable openings.

Building your team around these interactions gives you more options in difficult fights and lets certain Partner Skills become much more effective.

Verdict

Status conditions add another layer to Palworld’s combat, giving you more ways to damage, control, weaken, and capture your targets.

Understanding buildup, resistance, immunities, and the interactions between different effects lets you get more value from these mechanics.

Whether you are fighting a difficult boss or trying to capture a powerful Pal, using the right status at the right time can give you a meaningful advantage.
