Duriel is one of Diablo 4’s most iconic endgame bosses and now stands among the Greater Lair Bosses that players can challenge for some of the game’s most valuable rewards.
Found within the Gaping Crevasse, this massive Lesser Evil serves as a major step in the Lair Boss ladder and offers access to powerful loot through his Hoard.
While Duriel may appear slow due to his size, his devastating attacks, deadly poison effects, and burrowing mechanics can quickly overwhelm unprepared players.
Duriel Location (Gaping Crevasse)
Duriel lurks within the Gaping Crevasse, where players can challenge him after making their way to The World’s Bubo deep within the Boss Lair.
The Gaping Crevasse is located near Gea Kul in Kehjistan, making the city one of the closest locations to visit before heading to the encounter.
You can fast travel directly to the Gaping Crevasse by selecting it on your map.
Summoning and Defeating Duriel
Once inside the Gaping Crevasse, make your way to The World’s Bubo and interact with the Pestilent Altar to summon Duriel and begin the encounter.
Duriel uses a combination of powerful melee attacks, area-of-effect abilities, and poison-based attacks that can rapidly drain your health if left unchecked.
After taking enough damage, he will burrow underground and summon Pang of Duriel enemies while moving beneath the arena and creating dangerous ruptures in his path.
Avoid the ruptures whenever possible, as they can deal massive damage, while defeating the adds that appear until Duriel resurfaces to continue the fight.
This phase may repeat several times depending on your damage output, forcing you to manage both Duriel’s attacks and the enemies he summons throughout the encounter.
Continue avoiding his attacks while dealing consistent damage, and eventually Duriel will fall, causing his Hoard to appear nearby.
How To Open Duriel’s Hoard Chest?
After defeating Duriel, his Hoard will appear nearby and can be opened to claim rewards from his loot table, including some of the game’s most sought-after items.
Opening the Hoard requires a Greater Lair Boss Key, which is consumed upon use and is shared across all Greater Lair Boss Hoards.

Verdict
Duriel remains one of the more dangerous Greater Lair Bosses due to the amount of pressure he creates throughout the encounter with both his direct attacks and burrowing phases.
Managing the Pang of Duriel enemies while avoiding the ruptures he creates underground is often just as important as dealing damage to the boss himself.
Pay close attention whenever Duriel burrows, as his underground attacks are often the most dangerous part of the fight and can quickly catch careless players off guard.
