Duriel is one of the endgame bosses that has been around for a long time, and he has now been classified as a Greater Lair Boss.
Visiting the Gaping Crevasse will allow you to challenge this boss and if you are successful, you will be able to loot his Hoard provided you have the right Lair Boss Keys.
While this boss may appear to be large and sluggish, his tactics are deadlier than some of the other enemies you have faced, and the fight can turn out to be challenging if you are not prepared.
Duriel Location (Gaping Crevasse)
Duriel lurks within the Gaping Crevasse and can be summoned once you enter the dungeon and reach The World’s Bubo where his altar may be found.
The Gaping Crevasse is located near Gea Kul and this serves as one of the nearest towns that you can visit before or after reaching the dungeon.
You can fast travel to the Gaping Crevasse by selecting it on your map.
Summoning and Defeating Duriel
Once you enter the Gaping Crevasse, you will need to make your way to The World’s Bubo, which is where the Pestilent Altar may be found and interacted with to summon Duriel.
The fight begins with Duriel attacking you on his own, which includes several area of effect attacks and a lot of poison to go around.
After damaging Duriel to a certain extent, he will burrow, and this will cause multiple Pang of Duriel enemies to spawn and attack you.
While Duriel is burrowed, he will move around and if you are caught by the ruptures that he leaves as he travels, you will take damage and may even instantly be killed.
Defeat the Pang of Duriel enemies that appear and he will resurface, giving you the chance to damage him once more until he burrows again.
After emerging from the ground for a second time, you will be able to finally defeat Duriel by depleting what remains of his health.
How To Open Duriel’s Hoard Chest?
Defeating Duriel will cause him to puke out his innards before he crumbles to the ground, which later leads to his Hoard Chest appearing.
Once Duriel’s Hoard appears, you will be able to open it using 3 Shards of Agony and this is required for each chest that you open.

Verdict
Duriel can cause a lot of damage over time thanks to the many attacks that he has that can poison you and your companions.
It would be a good idea to have as much Poison Resistance as possible to survive the fight with Duriel to avoid having your health drained quickly.
Watch out for Duriel’s attacks as well as when he is following you while burrowed because this boss is well-known for instantly killing players who least expect it.
