With Mephisto’s Soulstone and Akarat’s body gone, it seems that you are back to square one but there is still more to do.
Preparations can be made and there is always a chance that Mephisto or any other evil can be fought back but in the meantime, Kurast requires a champion.
After discussing with Reverend Mother Prava, you catch a glimpse of a messenger outside of the Windswept Cabin who wishes to speak to you.

Deeds of a Champion Walkthrough
Following the completion of the Presaging Fate Quest, a messenger named Kalien will be waiting outside of the Windswept Cabin.
Speaking to Kalien will reveal that she has come from Kurast and that Ormus has sent them as he needs your skills.
You may fast travel to Kurast and speak with Ormus, who claims that Nahantu requires your help and this leads you to gain certain tasks to complete.
Once all of the tasks have been completed, you will need to make your way back to Ormus and speak with him at the Council Chambers.
Ormus will ask you to help Sihek, one of his most trusted people who you may have previously met during one of your recent visits to Kurast.
Councilor Sihek will tell you about a Dreg that is poisoning the water, which requires you to slay the Terror of Five Hills in the Undercity Quest. (You may finish the run or exit after)
Speak to Ormus once you are out of the Undercity and he will send you off to the Tree of Whispers, which you can reach quickly by fast traveling.
Once you speak to the Tree of Whispers, you will need to complete 10 Grim Favors in Nahantu and claim the reward by speaking to the tree again afterward.
After completing this task, which is more of an introduction to the Tree of Whispers in Season 6, head back and speak to Ormus.
This time around, Ormus will send you to the Helltide, where you will need to open Tortured Gifts (5 in total) and slay a Blood Maiden.
This acts as an introduction to the Helltide in Season 6, which is available now even in Normal Difficulty.
Once all of the Helltide objectives have been completed, head back to Ormus to get the next task from him.
Your next objective is to reach Level 60 if you haven’t already done this yet and afterward, you are to make your way to Cerrigar to run The Pit of Artificers on Tier 20.
This serves as an introduction to The Pit activity, which is now unlocked by reaching Level 60 as well as completing the Main Campaign.
Proceed with running The Pit at Tier 20 and once this is complete, you will make your way back to speak with Ormus again to complete the quest.
This ends the story phase of Season 6/The Vessel of Hatred and as Ormus says, you are now prepared for the torments ahead. (Which means it is time to grind in higher difficulties)
Deeds of a Champion Rewards
Completing the Deed of a Champion quest will reward you with a full set of Legendary equipment for your character.
This is meant to prepare you to start moving up to higher difficulties, which eventually should bring you from Torment I up to Torment IV.
Verdict
Deeds of a Champion is the epilogue to the story in Season 6 or the Vessel of Hatred Expansion and should give you a head start with the endgame.
With a full set of Legendary equipment, you will be able to continue the grind and may choose to start with the seasonal content if you focus on the story first.
Putting you through the various objectives was intentional since there were changes to the mechanics, which should now be familiar to you after this quest.
