Anyone who played Diablo II: Lord of Destruction may remember passing through the Crystalline Passage while searching for Anya during the Prison of Ice quest.
The journey eventually led into the Frozen River, where Anya was found imprisoned in ice after discovering Nihlathak’s betrayal and attempting to stop his plans.
Season 15 recreates this memorable rescue as a Waking Nightmare, sending you through the frozen caverns before once again freeing Anya from her icy prison.
Crystalline Passage Location
The Crystalline Passage Waking Nightmare is located in the Frigid Expanse area of Fractured Peaks, with its entrance permanently marked on the world map.
Its frozen surroundings make a fitting home for the returning dungeon, which originally appeared among the snowy regions surrounding Mount Arreat in Diablo II.
Crystalline Passage Walkthrough
Enter the Crystalline Passage and fight your way through the enemies inside while exploring the frozen tunnels until you eventually locate Anya trapped within the ice.
Interact with Anya to thaw and free her, after which she will escape through a portal while an ambush of enemies begins attacking your position.
Hold off the attackers and survive until the timer expires, after which the Waking Nightmare will be cleansed and the dungeon will be complete.
How To Find Anya?
Explore the Crystalline Passage while fighting through enemies and collecting any loot you find, keeping an eye on your map as more of the dungeon is revealed.
We had the most success pushing north through the dungeon, gradually uncovering the surrounding paths until we eventually found Anya trapped within the ice.
Continue exploring if she has not appeared yet, as revealing more of the area makes it easier to locate her without repeatedly searching the same passages.
Crystalline Passage Rewards
Completing the Crystalline Passage provides loot from enemies encountered throughout the dungeon while also contributing toward your Waking Nightmare and seasonal progression.
Entering Waking Nightmares also provides Prime Evil reputation toward the Splinter you currently bear, helping unlock additional ranks and upgrades for its Iconic Power.
Crystalline Passage also appears among later Season Rank objectives, giving you another reason to return and complete the dungeon on higher difficulties.
Farming Crystalline Passage
Crystalline Passage can be cleared relatively quickly once you know how to find Anya, since there is no requirement to eliminate every enemy throughout the dungeon.
Focus on exploring toward her location while killing whatever blocks your path, then free Anya and survive the timed ambush to finish the remaining objective.
Once you become familiar with the dungeon, repeated clears can provide a straightforward way to earn seasonal progression without dealing with a lengthy boss encounter.
Verdict
Crystalline Passage may not be the first location everyone remembers from Diablo II, but Anya’s frozen imprisonment makes the Prison of Ice quest much harder to forget.
Having you actually find and thaw Anya makes this Waking Nightmare feel like a recreation of the original journey rather than simply reusing an old location.
The final ambush adds something new to the rescue while preserving the important part of the memory: finding Anya trapped in the ice and setting her free.
