Remember one of the very first quests in Diablo II, when Akara sent you into the Blood Moor to cleanse a nearby cave filled with monsters?
The Den of Evil returns as a Dungeon Waking Nightmare in Diablo 4, recreating the darkness and simple objective that began the original adventure.
Even its memorable ending returns in Season 15, making this one of the most recognizable Waking Nightmares for longtime Diablo II players.
Den of Evil Location
The Den of Evil Waking Nightmare is located in the Westering Lowlands area of Scosglen, with its entrance permanently marked on the world map.
Unlike the original dungeon found near Diablo II’s Blood Moor, you will need to travel into Scosglen to cleanse the Den this time around.
Den of Evil Walkthrough
Once you enter the Den of Evil, your only objective is to clear every enemy inside, making this one of the simpler Dungeon Waking Nightmares.
You should encounter most enemies naturally while exploring, while remaining monsters can appear as red dots on your map after enough of the dungeon is revealed.
Make sure to check unexplored paths for any stragglers, since the Waking Nightmare cannot be cleansed until every remaining enemy has been defeated.
Once the final monster dies, the darkness disappears and light fills the Den just like in Diablo II, cleansing the Waking Nightmare and completing the dungeon.
Den of Evil Rewards
Completing the Den of Evil rewards you with loot from the enemies encountered throughout the dungeon while also counting toward your Waking Nightmare progression.
There are no unique rewards exclusive to the Den itself, so its main value comes from seasonal progression alongside whatever loot you collect during the clear.
Completing the Den of Evil on Penitent difficulty or higher also completes the Season Rank II Capstone objective, allowing you to progress to Season Rank III.
Farming Den of Evil
The Den of Evil is a good Waking Nightmare to farm for seasonal progression since its simple objective makes it possible to speedrun with a strong build.
You only need to sweep through the dungeon and eliminate every enemy, allowing repeated clears to provide a Prime Evil reputation without dealing with lengthy objectives or boss mechanics.
This becomes even faster once you know the dungeon layout and can quickly track down any remaining enemies needed to cleanse the Den.
Verdict
The Den of Evil may have been one of Diablo II’s simplest quests, but clearing that dark cave remains an instantly recognizable memory from the game’s opening hours.
Season 15 recreates the experience without unnecessarily changing what made it memorable, even bringing back the light that floods the cave after the final enemy falls.
It is a small detail compared to some larger Waking Nightmares, but seeing the Den illuminated again makes this recreation feel surprisingly faithful.
