Some of the Swords in Palworld may have seemed to be a bit lacking in the past, but with the Home Sweet Home update, changes have been made.
The sword mechanics for a few of the swords, namely the Katana and Beam Sword, are no longer single dashes but now include combos and a special attack.
With this change now live, players can now enjoy using melee weapons more during the endgame parts of Palworld and may now make use of the new Sword Mechanics.
Affected Swords
Two of the weapons in Palworld have received the new Sword Mechanics, which are the Katana and the Beam Sword.
Katana
Unlockable at Level 44, the Katana is now often the next sword-type melee weapon that players may choose to unlock.
Included in its attacks are basic combos for its primary attack and a quick dash that deals damage in a wide area for its special attack.
Beam Sword
A more advanced weapon with hints of technological advancement, the Beam Sword surpasses the Katana when it comes to damage, and of course, cool looks. (Requires Level 54)
Like the Katana, the Beam Sword shares the combo attacks as well as the special slash attack which additionally also releases a wave that travels forward to deal damage to enemies.
New Sword Mechanics
Combo Attack
Replacing the dashing slash attack, which would be performed with the attack button, a combo attack has now been added.
This includes continuous attacks alternating between a downward slash followed by an upward slash, which repeats as you use the primary attack.
Special Attack
The special attack is mainly the previous primary attack and may be performed by aiming while holding the Katana or Beam Sword and pressing the attack button.
This performs a forward slash, allowing you to aggressively move forward and unleash an attack to damage enemies who are in front of you after dashing.
Which Sword is Better?
To put things simply, the Beam Sword is better than the Katana simply because of the increased amount of damage that it can deal.
Being that they are the same type of weapon and the only changes are the visual appearance and damage, the Beam Sword is considered superior.
This is, of course, given since the Beam Sword is supposed to be more advanced and because it can only be unlocked upon reaching Level 54.
Verdict
With the new changes added to these swords, players may now utilize these weapons instead of having to opt for additional options, especially if they are fond of sword-type weapons.
As you progress from Katana to Beam Sword, you can later enjoy dealing heaps of damage to your enemies in the form of melee attacks and make use of both the combos and special attacks.
In the future, it may be possible that similar or new melee weapons may be added, making it possible that the developers are considering both melee and ranged weapons for endgame phases.
