Occult Gems are new types of Socketables that were added in the Season of Witchcraft, which provide useful effects that enhance your builds.
Most of the effects they provide affect the new Witchcraft Powers that were introduced in Season 7 and these give your builds more potential, especially in harder World Tiers.
While the game introduces Occult Gems as you progress through the Seasonal Questline, obtaining them can be a bit more of a grind than usual which is why we prepared this guide for you.
How To Unlock Occult Gems Recipes?
Occult Gem Recipes may be unlocked by consuming a Grimoire, which is a type of item that unlocks a specific Occult Gem.
Each Grimoire will have a different name, which is related to the specific Occult Gem that it unlocks and once you consume it, you will find the recipe when you visit Gelena.
Gelena is the Coven Jeweler, who may be found at The Tree of Whispers and may be interacted with to view and craft the Occult Gems that you have already unlocked.
How To Craft Occult Gems?
To Craft an Occult Gem, you may travel fast to The Tree of Whispers and speak with Gelena (Coven Jeweler) near the Altars of Witchcraft.
Once you have opened the Coven Jeweler menu, select the Occult Library tab and you will be able to pick the Occult Gem you wish to craft.
If you have all the required materials necessary for crafting the Occult Gem, you may proceed with crafting it, and this will provide you with a new Occult Gem with randomly chosen Affixes.
Occult Gems Crafting Materials
Occult Gems will often require a Fugitive Head, which can be obtained by defeating Fugitive Head Bosses that may spawn from Exposed Roots.
Another material you will need will be Restless Rot and this is easier to farm as all you need to do is defeat Headrotten Enemies. (Found in Headhunt Activity Zones or Roothold Dungeons)
Aside from the Fugitive Heads and Restless Rot, you will need additional materials such as a large sum of Gem Fragments, but these can be farmed as you progress through the season.
How To Use Occult Gems?
Occult Gems function similarly to Gems and other items that can be socketed in items, which require you to simply insert them into specific equipment.
This can be done by selecting the Occult Gem and dragging it onto the equipment that has sockets, and this will apply the gem’s effects.
Removing the Occult Gem from a piece of equipment can be done by speaking to Gelena and choosing the Unsocket Tab, which allows you to remove the gem from it.

Magic Occult Gems
- Wicked Pact – Your Common Eldritch Powers are 25% more Potent.
- Heart of Anima – Your Common Psyche Witch Powers are 25% more Potent.
- Toadling’s Wish – Your Common Growth & Decay Witch Powers are 35% more Potent.
- Phantom String – You deal 15% increased Overpower damage to Hexed enemies.
- Elder Sigil – Your Agility, Corpse, Incarnate, Mastery, Weapon Mastery, and Wrath Skills deal 25% increased direct damage to Hexed enemies. This Skill now has a Potency skill tag instead of Potency
- Vulture Talon – While you have an Aura active, your Damage Over Time ticks 50% faster.
- Pointed Finger – Your Summons deal 15% increased direct damage to Hexed Elites.
Rare Occult Gems
- Killing Wind – While you have three or more Eldritch Witch Powers equipped, gain 25% Movement Speed and 15% Critical Strike Chance.
- Raging Enigma – Your Unique Witch Powers deal 40% increased damage.
- Spiral Coin – While you have three or more Psyche Witch Powers equipped, gain 60% Crowd Control Duration and 20% Lucky Hit Chance.
- Cornucopia – While you have three or more Growth % Decay Witch Powers equipped, you generate 30% more Barrier, gain 30% more Fortify and have 30% more Thorns.
- Vile Phylactery – While you have a Summon Witch Power equipped, if you would take fatal damage, instead prevent that damage. Then, gain a Barrier equal to 100% of your Maximum Life and disable your Witch Powers with the Summon tag for 6 seconds. This can only occur once every 75 seconds.
- Hungering Void – While you have an Aura active, pull Nearby enemies toward you every 8 seconds.
Legendary Occult Gems
- Witching Hour – While you have three or more Eldritch Witch Powers equipped, every 5 seconds, the next Core Skill you cast gains the Eldritch tag.
- Voice of the Stars – While you have an Aura active, your Ultimate Skills gain each Witchcraft tag and deal 10% increased damage.
- Mind Wreath – While you have three or more Psyche Witch Powers equipped, the Cooldowns of your Defensive, Macabre, and Trap Skills are reduced by 20%.
- Friend of the Bog – While you have three or more Growth & Decay Witch Powers equipped, you gain 8% Primary Stat, 10% Maximum Life, and are always Unhindered.
- Moonlight Ward – For each Rank in your equipped Unique Witch Power, you gain 3% Damage Reduction and 0.5% Maximum Resistance to All Elements.
- Dust Stone – For each of your Auras and Hexes an enemy is afflicted by, they take 2.5% increased damage from you.
Verdict
Occult Gems are powerful additions that can enhance your character in several ways, especially if have already started making use of the different Witchcraft Powers.
Farming the Crafting Materials required for Occult Gems can be a grind but once you are on higher difficulties and know where to get them, you can eventually craft whichever ones you want.
