How To Get  Shard of Agony in Diablo 4

Shard of Agony used to be one of the Boss Summoning Items required to summon Duriel within the Gaping Crevasse to challenge him.

Changes were made in Diablo 4’s Season 8: Belial’s Return, which made Duriel a Greater Lair Boss as well as the Shard of Agony Lair Boss Key instead of an item needed to summon him.

Those who wish to challenge Duriel and reap the rewards for defeating him will need to get their hands on these Lair Boss Keys to gain access to his Hoard if they manage to defeat him.

How To Get Shard of Agony?

Since Shard of Agony is a Greater Lair Boss Key, the methods for obtaining it are different from those of Initiate Lair Boss Keys, making it a rarer item to get your hands on.

The more common way to obtain a Shard of Agony is to defeat Grigoire in the Hall of the Penitent or Varshan in the Malignant Burrow to open their Hoard Chests.

Other ways to obtain a Shard of Agony include defeating World Bosses, completing the Kurast Undercity activity with Tribute of Titans active, or completing Seasonal Events.

 Shard of Agony Uses

The Shard of Agony is required when it comes to opening Duriel’s Hoard Chest, which appears once you have defeated him in the Gaping Crevasse.

Unlike Initiate Lair Boss Keys that require you to have 12, you will only need 3 Shard of Agony every time you open Duriel’s Hoard, and this will drop a lot of loot which may include some of the following:

Verdict

Getting your hands on a few Shards of Agony can take a bit of time, which makes it important to focus on farming valuable loot from Initiate Lair Bosses first. (Grigoire & Varshan)

If you are unable to defeat Duriel during your first attempts, you won’t have to worry about losing any Shards of Agony as these are only consumed when opening his Hoard Chest.

As you progress through each season, there will be plenty of ways to farm Lair Boss Keys, eventually allowing you to obtain Shards of Agony to use in the Gaping Crevasse.
