Diablo 4: Fishing Guide (How to Unlock & Fish, Uses, Types)

With the arrival of Season 13 and the Lord of Hatred update, players can now enjoy Fishing in Diablo 4 to collect different types of strange fish that they can collect.

While this serves mainly as a hobby you can have on the side, there are certain achievements that you can unlock along the way.

Fishing in Diablo 4 is quite simple, and once you progress with the Lord of Hatred campaign, you eventually get to unlock this feature.

How To Unlock Fishing?

Upon the completion of The Queen and the Saint quest, you will obtain the Fishing (Feature Quest), and this eventually leads you to the east of Temis.

This will lead you to a man named Shi Yugong, whom you may speak with to unlock the Fishing Feature and get a few quests related to it.

How To Fish in Diablo 4?

After speaking to Shi Yugong, he hands over his Fishing Rod, and this permanently unlocks the ability to fish in different bodies of water, including those in other regions.

Once you are near water, you may select the “Cast Fishing Line” emote, and this will cause your character to cast a line to start fishing.

Your skills will change to “Reel In,” and this causes you to pull on your line to catch any fish that have taken a bite.

After casting your line, wait for the icon to appear over your character, which means a fish has been caught, and simply doing the “Reel In” action will instantly catch the fish if you are fast enough.

Fish Uses

Add To Collection

Fishes that you have caught, including those of different variations of the same type of fish, may be added to your collection by consuming them. (This can be done once)

Side Quests

Some fish are part of side quests, mainly those that can be started by speaking to Shi Yugong, where you first unlock Fishing.

Sell For Gold

Once you have no other uses for the fish that you have caught, these can later be sold to merchants for Gold if you need the extra amount or need to free up space.

The One That Got Away

After completing Favor For A Favor, this quest becomes available and involves you helping out Shi Yugong with his search for a specific strange fish that he claims to have seen.

This involves you fishing in different regions to obtain a type of fish, regardless of its quality, as long as you get that fish.

Verdict

Fishing in Diablo 4 is a simple but surprisingly engaging side activity that gives players a relaxing break from constant combat while still offering light progression through collections and achievements.

While it doesn’t provide major gameplay advantages or power boosts, it adds extra depth to exploration and rewards players who enjoy completing side content across different regions.

Overall, fishing is worth unlocking early and casually progressing over time, especially if you enjoy completionist goals or want a low-effort activity between intense dungeon runs.
