He is uncertain of where this fish may be and has asked that you fish for strange catches in hopes of finding one, which leads you on a journey to catch fish in various regions in Sanctuary.
How To Get The One That Got Away Quest?
This Fishing Side Quest is obtained right after you have completed Favor for a Favor quest, which recently had you catching a few fish before returning to Shi Yugong.
After the completion of Favor for a Favor, Shi Yugong tells you about the strange fish that he is after, and this prompts the start of The One That Got Away.
The One That Got Away Walkthrough
At the start of the quest, you will be tasked with catching certain fish, but these are just types of fish and have no specific variation required as long as you catch them.
These are mainly fish from different regions, so all you need to do is head to each region and catch the fish before adding them to your collection.
The following are the types of fish you need to catch, as well as the regions where they are caught:
- Augur of Civo (Dry Steppes)
- Morayaga (Fractured Peaks)
- Crookfish (Hawezar)
- Zakarati (Kehjistan)
- Neme-senga (Nahantu)
- Drakonbeard (Scosglen)
Once you have caught all of these fish and added them to your collection, speak with Shi Yugong, and he will tell you more about the fish from his dreams, which also ends the quest.

Similar to the other fishing quests, you will be rewarded with XP and Gold while also obtaining the next quest called The Fish of Dreams.
