Riven Trait Locking is a new feature introduced in Warframe’s The Shadowgrapher update, giving players more control over which attributes they keep when cycling Riven Mods.

The Lock Trait button appears at the lower right of the cycling screen after selecting a Riven Mod and choosing Cycle.
How to Lock Riven Traits?
Select the Riven Mod you want to modify and choose Cycle, then click the Lock Trait button at the lower right to display a list of available attributes.
Choose the trait you want to preserve before cycling the Riven, which will keep the selected attribute and its numerical value unchanged while doubling the usual Kuva cost.
How Much Kuva Does Riven Trait Locking Cost?
Locking a trait doubles the Kuva required to cycle a Riven Mod, with the exact amount depending on its existing cycling cost.
For example, a Riven that normally costs 3,500 Kuva per cycle will instead cost 7,000 Kuva while an attribute is locked.
Locking an attribute does not consume Kuva on its own. The increased cost applies when cycling the Riven while the trait is locked.
How Riven Trait Locking Works?
Once an attribute is locked, cycling generates a new set of attributes while preserving the selected trait and its numerical value.
For example, an Akstiletto Riven with +122.5% Multishot, +220.3% Damage, and -28.7% Fire Rate can have its Damage attribute locked before cycling.

The Damage attribute remains unchanged, while the other attributes are replaced with Status Duration and negative Ammo Maximum.
Players can then choose between the original and newly generated Riven without losing the locked attribute.
How to Change or Remove a Locked Trait?
A locked attribute is not permanent, allowing players to change which trait is preserved as they continue cycling their Riven Mods.
Use the Lock Trait button to manage the existing lock, select another attribute, or remove the lock entirely.
Removing the lock restores the normal Kuva cycling cost, although subsequent cycles will once again randomize every attribute.
Tips for Riven Trait Locking
Lock an attribute with a desirable numerical value rather than preserving a mediocre roll that could be improved through regular cycling.
Consider cycling normally until a desirable attribute appears before spending additional Kuva on locked cycles.
Check the weapon’s build before selecting a trait, particularly when deciding between Damage, Multishot, Critical Chance, and other useful attributes.
Compare both versions carefully after every cycle, since the newly generated attributes may be less desirable than those on the original Riven.
Remove or change the locked attribute whenever another trait becomes more important for the intended build.
