Waypoints have been one of the most important features in the Diablo Series as these allow you fast travel to certain areas in Sanctuary.
With the addition of Nahantu in the Vessel of Hatred Expansion, more locations are now available, and unlocking waypoints will get you around much quicker.
Finding these waypoints is done easily as most of them are unlocked as you progress with the Main Campaign while others can be found by exploring Nahantu or conquering strongholds.
How To Unlock Waypoints?
Unlocking waypoints is as easy as going up to them and interacting with the waypoint, which will permanently unlock it and give you easy access to the area.
Once a waypoint is unlocked, the icon on your map will change from grey to a bright blue color, indicating that the waypoint is active.
How To Use Waypoints?
Waypoints in previous Diablo titles required that you interact with one to reach the other, but things have changed in Diablo as you can teleport at any given time.
If you have unlocked a waypoint at a specific area, all you need to do is open your map and select the waypoint that you would like to fast travel to.
Should you simply use the Town Portal ability, this will teleport you to the nearest unlocked waypoint available.

Verdict
Even with the use of mounts, getting from one location to the other may sometimes take time and this makes it useful to have waypoints unlocked all over Sanctuary.
Since Nahantu is a new location, familiarizing yourself with the best places to teleport when you need services is necessary to save time by getting everything you need done.
Kurast Bazaar appears to be the best town to go to when you need services as it is complete with all the NPCs that you need and is also where you can start the Kurast Undercity activity.
