Diablo 4 Kurast Undercity Guide (Unlock, Tribute, Rewards & Mechanics)

The Kurast Undercity is a new activity that provides players with the ability to obtain amazing rewards for completing a quick run.

This allows you to enter a dungeon that has four different stages, with 3 giving you a chance to increase your regards and the last to defeat a boss to obtain them.

What makes this activity unique is the ability to define the rewards that you get based on Tribute and Bargains selected before opening the portal to start your run.

How To Unlock Kurast Undercity?

To unlock the Kurast Undercity Activity, you will need to progress with the Vessel of Hatred campaign, unlocking it after completion of the Reunion Quest.

Reunion is the 21st quest in the Vessel of Hatred Expansion Campaign that becomes available after the Fragile Blessings Quest, which is part of Chapter 3.

Once you have progressed, you will get a quest called The Kurast Undercity that puts you on a path to complete multiple Side Quests.

You will further be able to unlock more areas in the Kurast Undercity as you complete the questline for this activity, which includes the following quests:

  • The Kurast Undercity – Unlocks Kurast Undercity Activity
  • Undercity Wall of the Forgotten – Unlocks Undercity Ziggurat District
  • Undercity The Specter of Travincal
  • Undercity The Promise – Unlocks Undercity Temple District
  • Undercity Starving Pride – Unlocks Undercity Cave District
  • Undercity Sihek – Unlocks Tributes and Bargains

Kurast Undercity Mechanics

1) How To Start Kurast Undercity Activity

Interact with the Spirit Brazier in Kurast (Upper Kurast) to open a portal, which also has the option for you to choose a Tribute and Bargain for additional rewards. (Districts are chosen at random)

Once the portal is opened, you may head inside and start progressing through 3 stages before reaching a portal that leads you to the Undercity Boss.

Your Undercity run will have a timer, which determines how long you must defeat the boss at the end of the run. (Failure to defeat the boss before the timer expires will end the run)

2) How To Increase Attunement Rank

To get more rewards for defeating the Undercity Boss at the end of your run, you will need to increase your Attunement Rank.

Your Attunement Rank increases when you ignite Spirit Beacons and defeat monsters that you encounter within the Undercity. (Spirit Beacons will appear on your map)

A meter will be shown below your minimap that shows your current Attunement Rank, which will be maxed at Rank 4.

3) How To Extend Time (Time Bonus)

There will be certain monsters in the Undercity that are afflicted, and these enemies will be marked by an orange hourglass.

Slaying these monsters will grant you more time to complete the run and the stronger the monster is, the more time they will provide you.

4) Defeating Undercity Bosses

To reach the Undercity Boss, you will have to pass through each of the portals that you find for every level you explore.

Upon entering the last porter, you will be brought to an area where the boss will be waiting for you, making this the last part of the run.

Defeating the boss at the end of the Undercity Activity will result in you being rewarded with a chest that contains various loot.

Spirit Brazier Tribute

Undercity Tribute is an optional feature that allows you to alter the rewards that you get for completing a run of the Undercity Activity.

You will need to reach at least Attunement Rank 1 before you defeat the Undercity Boss to get the rewards from the Tribute you have chosen. (Higher Attunement Rank yields better rewards)

Tribute will often have different rarities, making the rewards you get even better based on the rarity of the Tribute you have used.

Spirit Brazier Bargains

Once you commit Tribute to the Spirit Brazier, this will give you the option to choose a Bargain, providing you with specific rewards for completing your run.

This provides you with the choice to customize the type of rewards you will receive based on what materials you offer.

How To Get Undercity Tribute?

Undercity Tribute can be obtained by completing various activities as there is a chance for it to drop all over Sanctuary by a rare chance.

You have a good chance to obtain a Tribute at the end of an Undercity Run from the chests that appear after you defeat the Undercity Boss.

Completing more difficult runs and doing more challenging activities will give you a better chance to get a Tribute of higher rarity.

Undercity Rewards

Defeating the boss at the end of an Undercity Run will allow you to open a rewards chest at the end, which will contain rewards based on the Attunement Rank that you reached.

The rewards will also be determined by the Tribute that you have used as well as if you have chosen any Bargains before entering the portal to the Kurast Undercity.

If you happen to have encountered the Portal Prankster and have killed it during your run, an additional rewards chest will be available.

Portal Prankster

During some of your Kurast Undercity runs, you may encounter an enemy called the Portal Prankster, which bears a similarity to a Treasure Goblin.

These do not always spawn in every Kurast Undercity run and are rare, making it ideal to kill them if you encounter them. (They will be marked on your map when nearby)

Defeating a Portal Prankster will provide you with an additional rewards chest labeled as a Prankster’s Hoard chest that appears after you have defeated the Undercity Boss.

Verdict

The Undercity Activity is a great way to get various loots depending on what you need and thanks to the Tribute and Bargains system, you can easily get gear to improve your character.

While most of the runs will be easy, using higher-rarity Tribute will make your runs more challenging but worth the effort once you get your hands on the goodies from the chests.

There are a limited number of districts and once you get the hang of doing a few runs, defeating each of the bosses becomes easy.
