Diablo 4: Silent Chest (How to Open & Rewards) (Season 13)

Silent Chests are special treasure chests that can randomly appear throughout Sanctuary and reward players with extra loot when opened.

They are not tied to one exact location and are usually encountered by chance while exploring, completing events, or traveling between objectives.

While Silent Chests are not considered one of the best farming methods in Diablo 4, they are still worth opening whenever you happen to come across one.

What Are Silent Chests?

Silent Chests are rare overworld chests that can appear in different regions across Sanctuary, often replacing normal chest spawns.

Unlike regular treasure chests, Silent Chests stand out because they require Murmuring Obols to unlock and usually provide better rewards than basic containers.

Since their appearance is random, most players simply treat them as an extra reward while doing other activities instead of actively farming them.

How To Open Silent Chests?

In Season 13, Silent Chests no longer require Whispering Keys to open, which is a major change compared to how the system previously worked in Diablo 4.

Instead of carrying a key in your inventory, interacting with a Silent Chest will now directly consume 25 Murmuring Obols if you have enough available.

This makes opening Silent Chests much simpler since you no longer need to visit the Purveyor of Curiosities beforehand just to prepare for one.

As long as you have enough Murmuring Obols while exploring Sanctuary, you can instantly unlock Silent Chests whenever they randomly appear during your runs.

Murmuring Bols can be obtained by completing different events all around Sanctuary, making it a good idea to not pass up any you find while on your adventures.

Silent Chest Rewards

Silent Chests can reward Gold, gear, crafting materials, gems, and other loot that scales based on your character level and current World Tier.

This means the rewards improve as you progress through harder difficulties, allowing the chest to occasionally provide higher quality equipment and resources.

While they are still not considered a reliable farming method, Silent Chests remain a decent source of extra loot whenever you happen to encounter one during your travels across Sanctuary.

What Happened To Silent Keys?

Whispering Keys previously served as the item required to open Silent Chests and could be purchased from the Purveyor of Curiosities using Murmuring Obols.

With Season 13, Blizzard removed the need for Whispering Keys entirely and replaced the system with direct Murmuring Obol costs when opening Silent Chests.

This change makes Silent Chests more convenient overall since players no longer need to prepare keys ahead of time before exploring.

Verdict

Silent Chests are still more of a random bonus than something you actively farm, especially since they can appear unexpectedly while exploring Sanctuary.

The removal of Whispering Keys in Season 13 makes them much more convenient to open, allowing you to spend Murmuring Obols directly instead of carrying extra items.

As long as you keep enough Obols on hand while traveling, opening a Silent Chest is an easy way to grab extra loot whenever luck happens to be on your side.
