Diablo 4: Prime Evil Powers – How To Unlock, Upgrade & Use

Prime Evil Powers are one of the main seasonal mechanics introduced with Season 15, giving players access to powers associated with Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto.

Each Prime Evil is represented by a different Soul Splinter, with its own Iconic Power, upgrades, reputation progression, and bonuses that improve specific activities throughout Sanctuary.

Although you begin by choosing one of these Splinters, all three can eventually be progressed and switched between depending on the power or activity bonuses you want to use.

What Are Prime Evil Powers?

Prime Evil Powers are seasonal abilities obtained through the Splinters of Terror, Destruction, and Hatred, with each Splinter representing one of the three Prime Evils encountered throughout the season.

Your active Splinter determines which Iconic Power you receive, while increasing its reputation rank unlocks additional power upgrades and modifiers for several activities throughout Sanctuary.

Only one Prime Evil Splinter can be active at a time, so choosing between them ultimately determines which set of seasonal bonuses you currently have access to.

How To Unlock Prime Evil Powers?

Prime Evil Powers become available by progressing through the Season of Hell’s Legacy seasonal questline, where Waking Nightmares and the three Prime Evil Splinters are gradually introduced.

Completing the seasonal storyline eventually requires you to choose a Splinter to bind yourself to, giving you access to its Iconic Power and allowing you to begin progressing its reputation track.

Your initial choice does not permanently lock you into that Prime Evil, as the other two Splinters can be accessed and progressed later in the season.

All Prime Evil Powers

Season 15 features three Prime Evil Splinters, with each providing its own Iconic Power alongside activity modifiers that become available as its reputation rank increases.

1) Splinter of Destruction

The Splinter of Destruction represents Baal and grants the Ice of Excidium Iconic Power, which can be strengthened through several additional upgrades as you increase its reputation rank.

Its activity modifiers primarily affect Kurast Undercity, Lair Bosses, and Whispers, providing additional benefits for players regularly farming these activities.

2) Splinter of Terror

The Splinter of Terror represents Diablo and grants the Flames of Metus Iconic Power, with additional effects becoming available as you progress through its reputation track.

Its activity modifiers focus primarily on Helltides, Infernal Hordes, and Whispers, allowing several parts of these activities to become more rewarding as the Splinter is upgraded.

3) Splinter of Hatred

The Splinter of Hatred represents Mephisto and provides the Ghosts of Odium Iconic Power, which continues to gain additional effects through its reputation milestones.

Its activity modifiers are centered around Nightmare Dungeons, the Pit, and Whispers, making this Splinter particularly relevant when these activities become a larger part of your progression.

How To Upgrade Prime Evil Powers?

Each Prime Evil Splinter has its own 24-rank reputation track, with progress made on Terror, Destruction, or Hatred remaining completely separate from the other two Splinters.

Increasing these ranks unlocks several upgrades to the corresponding Iconic Power, with new effects becoming available at specific milestones as you work toward Rank XXIV.

Reputation progress is retained when changing Splinters, allowing you to switch to another Prime Evil and later return without having to restart the previous track.

How To Change Prime Evil Powers?

Although your first Prime Evil Splinter is selected during the seasonal questline, this choice does not prevent you from accessing the powers associated with the other two Prime Evils.

You can later change the Splinter you are bound to by completing the larger Waking Nightmares, allowing another Prime Evil Power and its corresponding bonuses to become active.

Changing Splinters also allows you to begin earning reputation toward that track while keeping any progress already made with your previous choices.

Can You Unlock All Three Prime Evil Powers?

All three Prime Evil Splinters can be progressed during Season 15, so there is no need to create another character simply because you originally selected a different power.

Each Splinter retains its own reputation rank and unlocked upgrades, allowing you to gradually develop Terror, Destruction, and Hatred throughout the season.

The main limitation is that only one can be active at a time, requiring you to switch whenever you want to use another Prime Evil’s power and activity modifiers.

Verdict

Prime Evil Powers form a major part of Season 15 progression, with Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto each providing their own Iconic Power, upgrades, and activity modifiers.

While only one Splinter can be active at a time, you can eventually switch between all three and continue progressing their individual reputation tracks without losing previous progress.

This makes your initial choice less restrictive, while still giving you a reason to develop each Splinter based on the powers and activities you want to focus on throughout the season.
