Starting a new character in Diablo 4’s Season of Witchcraft immediately begins a quest called Oaths and Debts, which later has you meeting up with a witch from Hawezar.
Speaking to this witch later reveals that something terrible has happened to the Tree of Whispers as heads have been taken from it.
You will need to help the witch, who is later revealed to be Gelena as she searches for the head nearby in Gea Kul.
Oaths and Debts Quest Walkthrough
Once you have started a new character, head over to Gelena who will be marked on your map, and speak with her to begin assisting with the search for the head.
After speaking with Gelena, she will begin to follow you and your next step will be to head towards the marked area nearby.
Continue following the Whispering Roots that can be found along the way until you reach the end where you will interact with one at the end of the path.
The Whispering Rot at the end will be labeled as “Overgrown Door” and once you interact with it, the entrance to the Overgrown Tenement will be opened.
Head inside the dungeon and destroy the Overgrown Brambles blocking your path to continue fighting on your way to the end.
Along the way, you will encounter Exposed Roots and these act as a new type of container that you can interact with to get loot. (Similar to a chest)
Once you reach the end of the dungeon, there will be more Exposed Roots, which you will need to interact with to summon the Enraged Headless Husk.
You will need to fight this dungeon boss before you may proceed and once it has been defeated, it will drop a Fugitive Head.
Pick up the Fugitive Head and head over to Gelena, who will give you an explanation of what happened before you make your way to the Tree of Whispers.
Speak to Gelena once you reach the Tree of Whispers and afterward, your next task will be to view the Coven’s Favors. (This is where you may check your Coven’s Favor)
After checking the Coven’s Favor, you will need to view the Witchcraft powers at each of the Altars of Witchcraft nearby.
Once you have checked all the Altars of Witchcraft, the Oaths and Debts quest will be complete, which also serves as the tutorial for the Season of Witchcraft.
Oaths and Debts Quest Rewards
After each of the Altar of Witchcrafts has been checked, the Oaths and Debts quest will be complete.
Additionally, you will now have familiarized yourself with the Coven’s Favor and the Alatar of Witchcraft.
Verdict
The Tree of Whispers has been around for a long time but it seems that a battle has taken place and those defending the tree failed.
With the heads from the Tree of Whispers gone, you will need to find more of them during the season by following the seasonal campaign.
With the Coven’s Favor and Altar of Witchcraft now available, you can make purchases and obtain rewards that will be useful for later.
