The Sunless Cell is a location where Oryx once imprisoned the enemies and discarded progeny, which were later stripped and re-purposed.
Currently, the prison is occupied by the Taken, and Xivu Arath’s Hive has begun an invasion, bringing war to them.
To weaken Xivu Arath’s forces, you will need to disrupt the ritual that is ongoing within The Sunless Cell.
How To Launch The Sunless Cell Strike?
The Sunless Cell Strike became available during Act III of Episode Heresy and may be launched from The Last City destination.
Starting The Sunless Cell Strike will set you up for matchmaking to create a team of 3 Guardians to take on the strike.
The Sunless Cell Walkthrough
Starting from The Mausoleum, you will need to make your way to The Founts by fighting past the combatants.
Once you reach the founds, continue fighting your way past the combatants until you reach the forge room where Channelers of Terror may be found.
There will be 4 Channelers of Terror in the area and each of them is connected to the large eyes that cause the Suffocating Terror debuff.
Defeating the Channelers of Terror will remove the eyes that they are linked to, which will make it easier to progress through the area.
Once the Channelers of Terror have been dealt with, you may proceed further through the Dreadnaught by following the waypoint.
You will eventually reach The Asylum, which is where you will find two Taken Blights that need to be destroyed before you may proceed. (Unseal the Doors)
To destroy the Taken Blights, head to each of them and enter the barrier to damage the orb within. (Be careful, you will take damage while standing inside of the barriers)
After unsealing the doors, head into the next area where you will find several enemies, including a Custodian of Terror. (Clear all the enemies in the room)
Once the area is cleared, a Consumed Ogre will come out of the doors, and you will need to defeat it before you can proceed. (This will dispel a barrier)
Continue making your way to the next area by crossing the bridge that leads to The Hanging Crypts where you will need to defeat Taken Wardens before heading to the next area.
After taking out the Taken Wardens, continue making your way through the Dreadnaught by crossing the bridge, where several enemies will come rushing out.
Crossing the bridge will bring you closer to the final boss, which can be reached by jumping down into the darkness past the Rallying Point.
Out of the darkness, Obak-Hul, Imprisoned will appear and you will need to attack him but once his health has been reduced, he will become immune to damage.
You will need to take out the Channelers of Terror to make him vulnerable again and this needs to be done twice when his health is reduced.
Upon becoming critically injured, Obak-Hul will transform (He transforms into Obak-Hul, Transformed) and you will be able to finally defeat him without any more interference.
Collect your rewards from the chest that appears after Obak-Hul is defeated and the strike will be complete.
The Sunless Cell Rewards
Completing The Sunless Cell Strike will allow you to obtain different rewards, which are mostly randomized but may include the following:
- Glimmer
- Strange coin
- Shaders
- Materials
- Vanguard Engrams
Taken Osseous Fragments
During the Sunless Cell Strike, there are Taken Osseous Fragments that can be found, which are part of the Dyadic Perfection Exotic Quest.
You will need to search for 6 Taken Osseous Fragments that can be found in specific locations within the Sunless Cell Strike.
Verdict
Xivu Arath’s plan to gain power by taking on the Taken in the area has been stopped regardless of her sword still being aboard the Dreadnaught.
A powerful enemy that has been imprisoned and transformed has been dealt with, making it less dangerous for the Vanguard.
While this is only a step towards victory, a huge dent has been put into Xivu Arath’s plans thanks to your efforts.
