With the introduction of The Edge of Fate, Guardians found themselves exploring a new scenario filled with different regions.
While exploring, it is hard to miss the red chests that can be found lying around, while others require additional actions before you can access them.
These chests provide rewards tied to The Edge of Fate, which is mainly gear, but progression with the main quest and Kepler is required before you can open them.
How To Open Red Chests?
Red Chests can be opened once you have unlocked the ability that is tied to them, and 4 abilities can be obtained on Kepler.
These are Matterspark, Rosetta, Relocator, and Mattermorph, and depending on which one the Red Chest requires, the ability will need to be unlocked.
Aside from requiring a certain ability, some Red Chests will require an upgraded version, and an example would be Rosetta II instead of just the regular ability.
Some Red Chests are locked behind barriers or hidden through passages or blocked parts of a structure, which require the use of your Kepler abilities.
Examples could be using Matterspark to overcharge a pylon or using Mattermorph to create an opening for you to access a certain area.
The best way to be able to open all Red Chests would be to progress through the main quest first and unlock other ability upgrades so that you can access all of them.
How To Get Abilities?
Kepler Abilities are obtained as you progress through The Edge of Fate campaign, which allows you to unlock them as you move from each quest step and complete certain missions.
Further upgrades are obtained during the campaign as well, and later on, while you continue your journey through Kepler.

- Highly concentrated unknown energy – Matterspark
- Knowledge of an unfamiliar language – Rosetta
- Upgraded Fallen tech – Relocator
- Undiscovered technology – Mattermorph
Red Chest Loot Rewards
Opening a Red Chest will often provide you with loot from The Edge of Fate, and this can either be Legendary Armor or Weapons.
This is a great way for you to obtain gear, and if you have a selected Attunement at the Altar of Relativity, this will provide you with the specific item you have selected.

Obtaining Red Chests can be a great way to get yourself different types of gear or farm the same gear with different stats or perks.
Depending on whether it’s a piece of armor or a weapon, you will either have different stats for the armor or different perks for weapons until you get the perfect set to match your build.
To make things even better, you can reset the Red Chests to obtain their rewards all over again at the Altar of Relativity with the use of the “Reactivate Mysteries” option.
