Exploring the Dreadnaught by running The Nether activity can result in you discovering several of the secrets hidden on the ship.
These can be important for those who want to complete the Dredging Up Secrets and Dreadful Secrets Triumphs.
While there are several secrets to be found, we have put together a list of what you can expect to find or should look for to progress with the Triumphs and get tons of loot.
Common Dreadnaught Secrets
Burning Plates
There are plates in specific locations in some of the sections of the Dreadnaught that you may interact with.
The following are the sections in the Dreadnaught that have Burning Plates as well as where to find them:
- Trenchway – Head right after entering the area where you fight the Tormentor boss and go to the very end to find the plates near the edge.
- The Mausoleum – Near the area where you spawn on the map, head to the bridge and you will find the plates under it.
- Hall of Souls – Make your way to the area where you fight the Subjugator, and you will find the plates under the platform.
Interacting with each plate will light them and once all 3 have been lit, this will cause a boss named Vorok, Excise Eternal to appear.
Vorok, Excise Eternal will drop a random Boon when defeated and this will also cause a Chest to appear nearby.

Toland Orbs
These white floating orbs are common secrets that you often encounter during your first runs and are easy to spot from afar.
By following these orbs, you will be brought to specific locations where the last one will cause Toland to reveal a Secret Chest.
Toland may appear in any section of the Dreadnaught, though his presence is not guaranteed on every run, as he spawns randomly. (Confirmed through testing)
Desire Chests
Desire Chests are hidden within the different sections of the Dreadnaught, and these can be opened using 2 Essences of Desire each.
Opening a Desire Chest will often provide you with a Legendary Weapon from the Episode: Heresy Weapons as well as XP for your Seasonal Rank.
There are 2 Desire Chests within each section of the Dreadnaught, which makes it possible to get a total of 6 per run since you only go through 3 sections per run.

Tithe Chests
Each of the acts in Episode: Heresy had a specific quest for you to complete and these are tied to the Tithes that can be found in different areas.
Interacting with the Tithes will cause a portal to open, which will allow you to reach a room that has chests that you can loot.
The following are the Tithes and where to find them:
- Echoed Warnings Tithe – The Mausoleum (Inside dark room near the end of the section close to the circle defense objective)
- Rites of the Deep Tithe – Trenchway (Inside of a hole in the wall that you can reach starting from where the Solar Crystal spawns – Take out Ghost reveal platforms)
- Crossed Blades Tithe – Inside of a room past the boss near one of the passageways leading to another section of the Dreadnaught.
Specific Secrets in Dreadnaught Sections
Blighted Cabal (The Mausoleum)
While exploring the area where you encounter the boss in The Mausoleum, you will be able to spot Cabal combatants who are suspended by blight.
Shooting the blight will result in the Cabal combatants being released but they turn into Taken combatants that go by the name Dire Phalanx.
There will be four of them in the same spots every run and once the last one is defeated, a Secret Chest will appear.
Dark Transfer Shrieker Chests (The Mausoleum)
If you head over to the bridge and look at the area where there are a lot of glowing orange parts and an opening near it, this is where a Shrieker can be found.
Defeating the Shrieker (Named Dark Transfer) inside will open a portal, and this will take you to the Blighted Cysts where an altar and several chests may be found.
Interacting with the altar will cause you damage but this will allow you to open one of the chests near it.
So far, we were able to open 3 chests by using a Warlock with heal but you can also exit the portal and come back when you have healed through other methods.
Burning Pillars (Trenchway)
If you are in the Trenchway, there will be a large crossing that leads to the area where the Tormentor Boss is encountered.
Heading to the far side of the crossing will reveal that there is a semi-circle of a platform on the other side and across it is one of the burning pillars.
Light the burning pillar across the platform and make your way across by using the platforms that can be revealed using your Ghost.
Upon reaching the other side, lighting the other 2 burning pillars will summon the Ogre Ascendant, who you may defeat to reveal a Secret Chest.
Hole in Wall (Trenchway)
When you are on the Trenchway, head to the Solar Crystal and there will be invisible platforms that will be revealed when you bring out your Ghost.
Jump on the platform cross from the invisible ones and bring out your ghost to reveal more platforms that will lead to the hole in the wall above the Solar Crystal.
The hole in the wall is a tunnel and this will lead you to a Secret Chest as well as a portal that will teleport you back below.
The Ravenous (Hall of Souls)
The Ravenous is a type of hungry Hive enemy that seems to feed off the Wormspawns in the Hall of Souls.
Approach this enemy and move away to get it to follow you, which requires that you lead it to other groups of Wormspawns.
The first group of Wormspawns will be in the room to your right under the platform and the next group is just outside of the room on the right.
Leading The Ravenous to each group of Wormspawns will upgrade it, making it a tougher enemy until you reach the last one. (Defeat it to reveal a Secret Chest.
Jumping Puzzle (Hall of Souls)
Head to the platform where you fight the Subjugator Boss and jump on top of the platform that is floating near the large Taken Orb.
If you summon Ghost, several invisible platforms will be revealed, and will need to jump from platform to platform until you reach the end.
Upon reaching the last platform, a Secret Chest will appear but be careful, one wrong jump and you will have to start over if you fall.
Symbol Puzzle (The Founts)
From the rune where the device used to forge Willbreaker can be found, head to the room on the side that has several symbols.
You will see 3 symbols just outside of the room and these need to be fired at to solve the Symbol Puzzle.
Once all 3 of the symbols have been fired within the room that matches the ones outside, a Secret Chest will appear near a closed door.
Rune Room (The Founts)
Within the same room as the Symbol Puzzle, look around the pillar at the end and there may be a circular Rune attached to it.
The chances of the Rune appearing are not guaranteed as there is only a chance for it to appear when you run The Nether.
Some have claimed that solving the Symbol Puzzle will make it appear, but we were able to spot it without completing the puzzle.
Shooting the Rune on the pillar will cause the nearby door locked (near the Symbol Puzzle Chest) to open and this leads you to another Secret Chest.
Dog Chest (Hull Breach)
Heading to a large doorway past the boss in Hull Breach will bring you to a room where a Desire Chest can be found but there is also a small hole in the wall.
Going through the hole in the wall may result in you stumbling upon the area where Skittish Shadows may be found guarding the area.
Sneak past the Skittish Shadows and make your way to the Toland Orb and this will cause a secret Chest to appear.
Skyburner’s Grudge Chest (Hull Breach)
The Skyburner’s Chest can be accessed by heading to the area where there are red pillars and interacting with Toland near the green banner.
This will cause an enemy called Skyburner’s Grudge to appear, which you will need to defeat to get the Legion Code that will remove the barrier in the room below.
Verdict
Not all secrets will be available on the same track as there are sometimes instances where some are available and others won’t be there.
If you are aiming for the Heretic Title in Episode: Heresy, you will want to find as many secrets as possible to complete the Dreadful Secrets Triumph.
Finding secrets can be done in each run and aside from progression with Triumphs, you can get your hands on Episodic Weapons and other loot in the process.
