Oil Rigs are some of the more dangerous locations you can raid in Palworld, but getting through their defenses can provide some impressive rewards.
There are currently three Oil Rigs found across Palpagos, with each one offering a different challenge depending on your current level and equipment.
Whether you are hunting Schematics, Ancient Civilization Cores, or other valuable items, Oil Rigs remain useful locations to revisit once you can handle them.
What Are Oil Rigs in Palworld?
Oil Rigs are fortified Rayne Syndicate strongholds located out at sea, where you will encounter numerous enemies, defensive weapons, and valuable treasure chests.
Each Oil Rig has a recommended level and different defenses, allowing you to start with the easier rig before eventually challenging the endgame versions.
The main reason we visit Oil Rigs is their loot, as their chests can provide valuable materials, Schematics, Keys, and other useful rewards.
All Oil Rigs in Palworld
There are three Oil Rigs that you can currently visit, ranging from a relatively manageable Test Drilling Rig to a heavily defended endgame platform.
While they share similar mechanics, their enemy levels, defenses, layouts, and available rewards make each Oil Rig considerably different from the others.
1) Rayne Syndicate Test Drilling Rig
The Rayne Syndicate Test Drilling Rig is the easiest Oil Rig and makes a good introduction before attempting the much more dangerous offshore strongholds.
Its enemies are considerably weaker than those on later Oil Rigs, making this a good location to learn how these fortified areas work.

2) Rayne Syndicate Oil Rig
The Rayne Syndicate Oil Rig is a major jump in difficulty, with much stronger enemies and defensive weapons that can quickly punish careless approaches.
This is one we regularly return to for its Greater Chest and other loot, especially once you have equipment capable of comfortably handling Level 55 enemies.

3) Rayne Syndicate Platform Oil Rig
The Rayne Syndicate Platform Oil Rig is the hardest of the three and should generally be saved until you have strong endgame equipment and Pals.
Aside from its large number of defenders, you will also need to deal with its defenses and Attack Chopper before completely clearing the platform.

How to Reach Oil Rigs?
Oil Rigs do not have their own Fast Travel points, so you will need to approach them from the nearest island using a suitable Pal.
Flying may seem like the easiest option, but the stronger Oil Rigs have anti-air defenses capable of quickly bringing you and your mount down.
We prefer approaching dangerous Oil Rigs carefully by water or staying out of defensive range before choosing a safe place to enter the platform.
The Test Drilling Rig is much more forgiving, making it a better place to practice approaching and clearing Oil Rigs before attempting the stronger versions.
Oil Rig Defenses
Each Oil Rig has several defenses alongside its Rayne Syndicate guards, with stronger and more dangerous systems appearing as you progress to higher-level platforms.
1) Gun Turrets
Gun Turrets can be found across all three Oil Rigs, firing at nearby players or mounted Pals and making exposed areas more dangerous during combat.
You can destroy these turrets by attacking them or interacting with their nearby control consoles, allowing you to safely move through that section afterward.
2) Anti-Air Laser Turrets
Anti-Air Laser Turrets appear on the Level 55 Oil Rig and Level 60 Platform Oil Rig, but are not present on the Test Drilling Rig.
These have an extremely long range and target approaching Flying Pals, but you can disable them from their consoles once you safely reach the platform.
3) Anti-Air Rocket Platforms
Anti-Air Rocket Platforms are exclusive to the Level 60 Platform Oil Rig, adding another layer of aerial defense alongside the Anti-Air Laser Turrets.
Approaching by air becomes especially dangerous with both systems active, so reaching their controls and disabling the defenses can make exploring the platform much easier.
4) Attack Chopper
The Attack Chopper is exclusive to the Level 60 Platform Oil Rig and appears when you interact with the large treasure chest that it guards.
Unlike stationary defenses, the Attack Chopper must be fought directly, with Rocket or Guided Missile Launchers being particularly useful for bringing it down at range.
Oil Rig Rewards
Treasure chests are the main reason to clear Oil Rigs, with each location containing multiple smaller chests alongside more valuable reward containers.
Depending on the Oil Rig, these can provide Crude Oil, Ancient Civilization Cores, Schematics, Keys, Pal Souls, ammunition, and several other useful items.
The stronger Oil Rigs generally provide the rewards we are most interested in, particularly when farming high-level Schematics and materials needed for endgame progression.
Since chest rewards involve RNG, you may need to clear the same Oil Rig repeatedly before obtaining the particular Schematic or item you are hunting.
Oil Rig Chest Respawns
Oil Rig chests eventually become available again after being looted, allowing you to return and repeatedly farm the same platform for additional rewards.
This makes Oil Rigs particularly useful when hunting rare Schematics, since a disappointing chest does not mean you have permanently missed its potential rewards.
Once you become familiar with Greater Chest spawn locations, repeated runs become much faster since you can prioritize the important areas instead of searching everywhere.
Tips for Clearing Oil Rigs
Bring strong armor, weapons, ammunition, and Pals appropriate for the Oil Rig you are attempting, since later platforms contain numerous heavily armed enemies.
Avoid blindly flying toward higher-level Oil Rigs, as their anti-air defenses can quickly kill your mount and leave you stranded in the surrounding ocean.
Learn the possible Greater Chest locations after several runs, since knowing where to search can dramatically reduce the time needed for repeated farming.
We also recommend bringing a reliable way to escape after collecting your loot, especially when you do not intend to eliminate every enemy remaining.
Which Oil Rig Should You Farm?
The Test Drilling Rig is best suited to players beginning Oil Rig content, although its lower-tier rewards become less attractive as your progression improves.
The Level 55 Oil Rig offers a good balance between difficulty and valuable loot, making it a practical choice once your equipment becomes strong enough.
For endgame farming, the Platform Oil Rig provides the toughest challenge but gives you access to rewards and Schematics worth repeatedly clearing the area for.

Oil Rigs provide some of Palworld’s most rewarding repeatable combat encounters, with three different platforms offering increasingly difficult challenges as you progress.
We recommend starting with the Test Drilling Rig before moving onto the Level 55 Oil Rig and eventually tackling the heavily defended Platform Oil Rig.
Once you can comfortably clear them, repeated Oil Rig runs become a useful way to farm Schematics, Ancient Civilization Cores, and other valuable rewards.
