Shields are one of the most important types of equipment that you can get in Palworld as they add to your survivability when you face both Pals and other humans.
As you progress through the game, you will be able to unlock and craft different Shields that may be equipped to absorb the damage that should be done to your character.
You get your earliest Shield as soon as you gain a few levels and upon progressing, stronger variants can be crafted and equipped to help you survive tougher battles.
How To Get Shields?
Shields may be unlocked as you reach certain levels, providing you with the opportunity to unlock and craft them. (They can be unlocked from the Technology Menu)
Once a Shield has been unlocked from your Technology Menu, crafting it can be done at certain crafting stations starting from the Workbench up to the Production Assembly Line II.
The better the Shield that you intend to craft, the more and rarer the resources you will need, which makes farming necessary at certain times.
How To Use Shields?
After having a Shield crafted at its required crafting station, you collect it to have it sent to your inventory and may equip it afterward.
Equipping a Shield is done similarly to how you would any other type of equipment and this will either equip it or replace any current one you have.
Once a Shield is equipped, your Shields that are represented by a blue bar above your Health will immediately start to regenerate.
Taking damage during combat will cause your Shields to be drained first instead of your health being reduced and once they are depleted, the rest of the damage goes to your health.
After some time of not taking damage, your Shields will begin to replenish until they are full again regardless of how much durability they have remaining.
If the durability of your Shield is depleted, it will be broken and will no longer regenerate your Shields until you have repaired it. (You can do this at a Repair Bench)

Shields can be a good way to stay alive at certain times and can even help you survive some of the hardest encounters in Palworld.
Upgrading your Shield to a better one will replace the previous one but is a good way of making your character stronger.
The Advanced Shield is the strongest shield in the game, which features the ability to automatically repair itself if you have not taken damage for some time.
