Your attempt to stop the heretics at the Black Tomb failed and it looks like the Hell Gate will start pouring out demons if you do not put a stop to them.
Locran has instructed you to meet him at the Caldeum Imperial Palace where the two of you will face the minions of hell head-on.
You are to meet with Lacron and make your way to the Hell Gate and engage in battle against hell itself to buy Sanctuary time to prepare for a moment of peace before its end.

To the Edge of the Abyss Quest Walkthrough
Locran will be waiting for you at the Caldeum Imperial Palace and you will need to make your way there and speak with him before the two of you descend to the Gates of Hell.
You will need to fight your way past demons until you reach the gate that leads to the Burning Hells (Realm of Hatred), where Locran will instruct you to bring him a demon’s heart from a nearby corpse.
Locran will remove the Horadric Seal on the gate, which will allow you and Locran to make your way inside to find the Well of Hatred.
You must continue fighting your way through The Desolation Fields, where Locran must be protected whenever he stops to fix the compass that he brought.
This needs to be done until you reach the Opening into Darkness, which you must interact with before Locran opens a channel going down.
Once the entrance has been opened, you may now enter the Infernal Hordes with Locran and fight your way through demons to reach the Abyssal Verge.
You will need to place Locran’s Talisman before he begins to channel, which turns him into the Achor to the Abyss and you will need to fight the enemies in the area.
Maffer the Cruel will appear, and you will need to defeat this demon before Locran continues and this results in two more demons appearing that you need to defeat.
These are Galeb the Flame and Bremm the Maelstrom, who you will be fighting at the same time along with other demons that spawn.
Locran falls to the ground, claiming to have completed his task as he lets out the last of his words with his dying breath.
He says that he has opened the way for you and that the demons will never stop but believes you can fight back against them.
Locran beckons you to hold them back as he wishes to know there is hope and moments later, he passes away, leaving the Infernal Hordes in your hands.
After Locran passes, you will need to exit The Well of Hatred through a portal that has been opened back to Sanctuary and the quest will end.
To the Edge of the Abyss Quest Rewards
After the fight within The Well of Hatred, you may exit Sanctuary and complete the quest, which will reward you with the following:
- Locran’s Talisman
- 2 Item Caches
- The Infernal Hordes Compass
- XP
- Gold
Verdict
With all options exhausted, you and Locran traveled to The Well of Hatred and faced off against the demons of hell, including the Fell Council.
Locran perished after sacrificing himself to give you an opening, which allowed you to deal a severe blow to the forces of hell.
The Infernal Hordes remain, and more demons will come, which leaves it up to you to continue holding them back until Sanctuary is ready to stand against them.
