Improving your armor is a great way to increase its stats further but with each level, you will need more materials to do this.

Just as you would obtain Rawhide, Superior Leather can also be obtained similarly and is needed alongside Superior Leather with a majority of your armor upgrades.

Superior Leather is a rare type of leather needed for improving armor beyond its common capacities and can be obtained by creatures considered beasts or wildlife.
It is described as a material that is supple and rugged, which is used for fine garments and even better armor that you can wear.
How To Get Superior Leather?
Superior Leather shares the same acquisition methods as Rawhide but differs mainly in rarity, making it obtainable but not as often as Rawhide.
Slaying Wildlife and Beasts has a chance to provide you with Superior Leather, which becomes more common when you are in a higher world tier.
You may also obtain Superior Leather by salvaging armor that has a rarity of magic or higher and may even craft it when visiting the Alchemist. (Requires 5 Rawhide each)
Superior Leather Farming
Killing Beasts and most of the Wildlife that you encounter is a good way to get Superior Leather but Rawhide will often drop alongside it as well.
Whenever you salvage Rare Armor or higher quality pieces, you are likely to obtain Superior Leather along with other resources.
The amount of Superior Leather you obtain may vary based on the quality of the armor you salvage but most of the time a lot of rare pieces will be lootable.
Superior Leather Uses
Superior Leather is used as a crafting material for upgrading armor to level 2 and beyond, reaching a maximum of level 5.
Upgrading armor to level to and higher levels will require additional resources though Superior Leather will always be needed with each level.
This can be done by visiting a blacksmith and placing the piece of armor you want into the upgrade slot, which allows you to increase the armor’s stats.
Verdict
Since Superior Leather is required for your armor, it is best to always take the opportunity to get some whenever you can by always salvaging rare armor that you don’t need.
Superior Leather will not be as common during the earlier parts of the game but this becomes easy to obtain once you reach higher levels and are in a higher world tier.
It is often best to upgrade items up to level 3 as the materials along with Superior Leather are not that hard to obtain even during the earlier stages of your character’s progression.
