After being instructed to search for the hermit, you finally met him and it turns out he is a man named Lorath Nahr.
He has claimed that the demon you saw in your vision was the creator of Sanctuary, Lilith the Daughter of Hatred.
Lorath has agreed to accompany you to meet with the Cathedral of Light as requested by Iosef and the two of you must journey there together.
How To Get Rite of Passage?
The Rite of Passage is a quest that begins after you have completed In Search of Answers, where you previously met the hermit named Lorath.
You were previously instructed by Iosef to search for him and found his cabin where the two of you talked about your vision.
Rite of Passage Quest Objectives
1) Accompany Lorath to Kyovashad
After the cutscene where you and Lorath were discussing Lilith and how you are connected to her, he will join you.
The two of you will need to make your way to Kyovashad but enemies will be along the way and you will need to fight through them.
2) Slay the Fallen
As you make your way to Kyovashad, you will come across fallen enemies at Father’s Cross and will need to slay them.
3) Speak with Lorath
Lorath will stop in front of a statue and you will need to interact with him to speak with him, which is where he talks about the angel Inarius.
4) Accompany Lorath to Kyovashad
After Lorath tells you about Inarius, the two of you need to continue making your way to Kyovashad, which will be shown on your map with a marker that you need to follow.
You will need to wait for Lorath to arrive at the entrance before you can proceed, which is where a guard will prevent you from entering.
5) Speak to Lorath
Lorath will interrupt the guard, claiming that there is no time for what the guard is imposing and you will need to speak with him.
Lorath explains the Rite of Passage that visitors must take before they are allowed to enter Kyovashad and he is allowed to enter while you need to complete the rite.
6) Burn your sin
The guard tells you that you need to take a piece of holy cedarwood from the shrine and inscribe it with the sin that troubles you before burning it.
You will need to head to the nearby shrine and interact with it, which will prompt you with writing whatever you want on the piece of wood.
After making your choice, a cutscene begins where you take it to the fire and burn it and afterward, you must speak with the guard.
7) Speak with the guard
Head over to the guard and interact with him and you will now be able to pass freely into the town after he welcomes you and the quest will be complete.
Rite of Passage Rewards
After writing down a sin that troubles you and burning it, the Rite of Passage quest will be complete, which will reward you with 880 XP and 300 Gold.
Verdict
Kyovashad was not that far but the journey had been slightly interrupted by the presence of demons that you had to take care of.
It looks like Lorath is known in Kyovashad and was let through even though he did not cooperate with what the guard needed.
