After attempting to identify Vex movements by placing nanobots, you eventually came across a biological lifeform that Failsafe identified as a specimen.
This specimen appeared to be difficult for Failsafe to track because it was biological but eventually, you discovered it.
After examining the specimen that you have found, Failsafe now needs your help making sure the Vex does not endanger this species.
How To Get Specimen ID: NES005 Quest?
The Specimen ID: NES005 Quest may be obtained later after you have picked up the frog-like specimen during quest step 18 of A Rising Chorus Act 2.
You will come across a specimen during the quest that you must collect and later during quest step 19, you may obtain this quest.
Specimen ID: NES005 Quest Steps
Step 1: Collect Iridescent Radiolite to find nutritional clusters within
The specimen that you collected will need food and Failsafe has detected clusters that she has named “Bufo Bites” within Iridescent Radiolite.
You will need to do activities such as Breach Executable and Battleground: Echos to find Iridescent Radiolite that will provide you with Bufo Bites.
- Collect 30 Bufo Bites
Step 2: Collect flora from Nessus to prepare a small terrarium in the H.E.L.M.
To give the specimen a comfortable place to stay, you will need to head to Nessus and collect plants that Failsafe may use.
This requires you to head to Watcher’s Grave by fast traveling or launching from the quest menu, which will lead you to an area where waypoints are marking the plants that you need to collect.
- Collect 7 Nessus Flora
Step 3: Defeat Vex on Nessus to ensure a safe habitat
The specimen you have collected is welcome aboard the H.E.L.M. but the rest of them on Nessus are still in danger because of the Vex.
To ensure better chances of their survival, you will need to head to Nessus and cut down the Vex’s numbers.
- Defeat 100 Vex
Step 4: Speak with Failsafe in the H.E.L.M. to review her final specimen analysis report
Failsafe has a report ready for you regarding the amphibian you found, which she has now named Captain Jacobson in honor of her previous captain.
- Review Failsafe’s Report (Claim the Captain Jacobson)
Step 5: Give Captain Jacobson a new home in the H.E.L.M.
Now that you are done with helping out Failsafe, it’s time to set up Captain Jacobson’s new home in the H.E.L.M.
Head to the marked area and interact with it to place down Captain Jacobson’s terrarium, which will now be his new home.
- Display specimen.
Specimen ID: NES005 Quest Rewards
Completing Specimen ID: NES005 unlocks several upgrades from the Research Bays that you can check by interacting with Failsafe at the H.E.L.M.
These include the following:
- Piston Hammer Recharging – Piston Hammer will occasionally recharge itself when used.
- Secondary Echo Engram Focusing – Unlocks the ability to focus Echo Engrams into Act II weapons.
- Advanced Radiolite Analysis – Improves rewards earned by depositing Radiolite samples in the Radiolite Bay.
Summary
Failsafe was unable to track down Captain Jacobson due to it being biological and she can only focus on the more technological side of things.
This species of frog seems to have survived the Radiolaria on Nessus due to the secretions that they have and the Vex planned to assimilate with them just like other species.
Thanks to your efforts, you have made Nessus safer for this species and have used the data from Failsafe to gain new upgrades.
