Warframe: Heavy Caliber Mod (How to Get, Effects & Stats)

Rifle type primary weapons in Warframe often rely on stacking base damage to stay effective, especially when dealing with higher level enemies that require stronger scaling.

Heavy Caliber provides a large damage increase specifically for rifles, but adds spread which directly affects how accurate your shots are during combat.

This creates a clear tradeoff where rifles gain more raw damage per shot while becoming less precise, making weapon choice important when deciding to use it.

How To Get Heavy Caliber?

Heavy Caliber is obtained by opening Orokin Vaults found in Deimos missions, which require Dragon Keys equipped in your gear wheel to unlock.

These vaults appear as hidden side objectives, and completing them rewards a corrupted mod from a shared pool that includes several different possible drops.

Since the reward is random, farming this mod requires multiple runs, making it a grind based process rather than something you can obtain immediately.

Heavy Caliber Effects

Heavy Caliber increases rifle damage significantly, stacking with mods like Serration to boost overall damage output.

In exchange, it adds weapon spread, causing shots to deviate more and making rifles noticeably less accurate, especially during sustained fire.

This added spread is applied directly and cannot be fully offset by accuracy mods, meaning the downside will always be present to some degree.

The penalty is less noticeable on weapons that do not rely on precision, such as explosive rifles or those with naturally wide projectile behavior.

Because of this, it is mainly used on rifles where accuracy is not critical, allowing players to take advantage of the extra damage without being heavily affected.

Verdict

Heavy Caliber is a solid damage option for rifles, but its value really depends on whether your weapon can handle the added spread without hurting consistency.

It works best on explosive or wide spread rifles where the added deviation does not matter, giving you extra damage with almost no real drawback.

On precision rifles or weapons that rely on accuracy for headshots or consistent hits, the spread can make it feel unreliable and harder to control overall.
