You and Tyrael searched for Lorath, but it looks like both of you were too late, and Queen Adreona had already ended his life.
To avenge Lorath, you witnessed the queen transformed by Mephisto’s influence and had to put her down permanently.
With Lorath’s body buried, there is no time to grieve as Mephisto is still pushing through with his plans, and you must pursue and put a stop to him.
How To Get Smothered Flame Quest?
“Smothered Flame” becomes your active quest after the completion of “The Fools” quest, where you defeat Queen Adreona and bury Lorath.
The quest begins after the cutscene of you speaking with Tyrael is finished during the quest, which starts “Smothered Flame” afterward.
Smothered Flame Walkthrough
Once the quest begins, make your way to the Celestia Observatory and speak to Scout Koraki, who is currently with Tyrael.
After the conversation with Scout Koraki, Tyarel decides to head to find Tharra while you are searching for the Oracle and try to save her.
Follow the waypoint to the observatory and head inside, where you will find Oracle Cyra being held hostage by the Amazons.
After a heated conversation, an eclipse begins, and the Amazons are transformed, which now requires that you slay them.
Once the area is cleared, head to the Observatory Door and interact with it to bar it shut, and suddenly, the observatory wall will be destroyed.
More corrupted Amazons will make their way inside, and you will need to defend Oracle Cyra, fighting off every last one of them.
Speak to Oracle Cyra after, and she will mention “a gift from Lorath,” which marks the arrival of Tharra and her Amazons, who open a path for you to slide down.
Speak to Tharra, and afterward, you will need to attack the Siege Weapons in the area, which will be marked on your map.
Once the Siege Weapons are destroyed, head to the Observatory Approach and slay all 3 of the Corrupted Captains, who will also be marked on your map.
After slaying the captains, head back to Oracle Cyra and speak with her, which later results in the quest coming to an end.
Smothered Flame Quest Rewards
After defeating the corrupted captains and speaking to Oracle Cyra, the quest will end, and a new quest called “The Age of Hatred” will begin.
In addition to the next quest being unlocked, you also receive:
- XP
- Gold
- Rare/Legendary Items
Verdict
After Lorath’s death, your journey led you to the Celestia Observatory, where tensions among the Amazons had already reached a breaking point as Oracle Cyra was being held hostage.
The sudden eclipse revealed the full extent of Mephisto’s corruption, transforming many of Queen Adreona’s followers into hostile enemies that quickly overwhelmed the observatory.
With Cyra rescued and the corrupted Amazons defeated, the next step is to make your way to Atanos and search for Tyrael before Mephisto’s influence spreads even further.
