Diablo 4: Sanctification Guide (Sanctify Buff & Items) Divine Craftsmanship

With Diablo 4 Season 11 now live, players have access to a new feature at the Heavenly Forge, which is known as Sanctification.

This acts as an endgame feature for those who wish to enhance their equipment past their limits, but there is a certain cost to doing this.

Aside from having to defeat bosses or complete certain challenges to gain the opportunity to Sanctify items, utilizing this feature is recommended for finalizing your items.

What Does Sanctification Do?

Sanctification is the process of upgrading a specific item, which provides it with a Random Affix, but this also makes the item unmodifiable. (Meaning it can no longer be upgraded or altered)

This is done at the Heavenly Forge, which is accessible by using a portal that leads to it, and this can be entered from a Capital City or one that spawns after defeating bosses.

You may only use the Sanctification Feature once you have Sanctify, which is a type of buff that may become active after defeating bosses or completing certain activities.

How to Get Sanctify Buff?

Sanctify, also known as the Sanctify Buff, indicates that you can use the Sanctification feature at the Heavenly Forge.

When active, the buff appears above your Experience Bar alongside other statuses, and your character gains a noticeable golden glow.

To obtain Sanctify, you must defeat bosses, including those found in Lesser Evil Invasions, Boss Lairs, Nightmare Dungeons, and similar content.

Certain activities, such as completing a Nightmare Dungeon, can also grant the buff and simultaneously open a portal to the Heavenly Forge.

How To Sanctify Items?

To Sanctify an item, you must first obtain the Sanctify Buff before traveling to the Heavenly Forge, where you can interact with it to begin the process.

Once the Sanctification menu has been opened by interacting with the Heavenly Forge, place the item you wish to Sanctify into the designated slot.

Select “Sanctify” to apply a Random Affix, but be warned that once this is done, the item becomes permanently locked and can no longer be altered or reverted.

Tips For Sanctification

Sanctification can be useful early on to enhance weaker gear, especially when upgrade materials are limited and traditional item progression is still restricted.

As you reach higher levels and obtain stronger equipment, it becomes more important to fully upgrade items before Sanctification, since they become permanently unmodifiable afterward.

For the best possible results, always Temper and Masterwork an item prior to Sanctifying it, ensuring you lock in maximum value before committing to its final state.

Verdict

Sanctification provides a powerful method for finalizing equipment in Season 11, rewarding players who carefully plan their upgrades and commit to long-term gear decisions.

When used at the right moment, this system can noticeably strengthen builds while introducing meaningful choices into endgame item progression.

Overall, Sanctification stands out as a high-risk, high-reward mechanic that rewards preparation, precise timing, and confidence in your equipment choices.
